My brother-in-law asked me to track down books by an author but he can't remeber the exact names...LOL

It was an author who wrote from the 1920's to the 1950's

One of the books was titled From Dusk Til Dawn or From Dusk Until Dawn or just Dusk until Dawn

He also wrote a series of 5 books in the 1940's all with the word "Black" in the titles. He thinks one was called Rapsody in Black

He read them in 1982 when they were reprinted by Bantam

I know it's very little to go on.... any ideas?

Thanks!

Lisa

Man, I have searched all sorts of hard boiled detective websites and can't find anything like these books.  Of course I love a good search, so I'll keep looking.  But only on one condition....if you figure it out, you have to come back and post here and let us know.

I think the series he is thinking of is Cornell Woolrich's Black series - The Black Path of Fear, Black Angel, The Bride Wore Black, The Black Curtain, etc. I'm not sure how many were in the series.

I think it is Cornell Woolrich -  title you're looking for is "Deadline At Dawn", I'm pretty sure.

I can only communicate with him through mail so it may take a little time before I let ya'll know if that's it but I definately will :)

Take Care,

Lisa

Right off the bat this is looking very promising because I know he also loves Raymond Chandler & Dashiel Hammett and they are referenced in the Wiki article as well as a Rendesvous in Black which may be the Rapsody in Black he was thinking of...

Again Thanks!

Raymond Chandler & Dashiel Hammett

Does he like the Hard Case Crime series?

http://www.hardcasecrime.com/

I love these books!  They reprint hard to find and long out of print books by authors like David Goodis and Richard Stark, as well as publish books by newer authors like Ken Bruen.  Great series!

I post all my hardboiled/pulp stuff here to FIFO after I finish reading them, but it seems like all the books end up going to a small handful of people..... maybe the genre is not so popular here.  :/

I love that series!  A friend of mine just got published by them and I'm unspeakably jealous.

Thanks for the info :)

I plan to get some for him & will let you know. He hasn't mentioned them but they sound like they would be right up his alley...

I just ordered the only Cornell Woolrich book available to send him.

Are the novels in the above series # or where do i start? thanks!

Take Care,

Lisa
