I received at hardcover children's book which was folded to fit into my mailbox.  :(

What can I do with regards to reporting it?  I'm assuming I won't receive any reimbursement from USPS, right?

A) Call 1-800-ask-usps and report it, which would then have a Supervisor at your Post Office call you back.

B) Call your Post Office and talk to a Supervisor or the Postmaster.

I actually had this happen recently when one of my Rural Carriers folded a 1960 era thin hardback.

Unless there is insurance on it, which is highly unlikely, not much of anything.

What it does do is let us know where a problem is so that we can address the carrier's actions. Usually the more we know the easier it is for us to correct this type of mistake so it doesn't impact other deliveries.

Thank you very much Kevin.  I appreciate the information.  :)

I'm not sure which option I will do, but at least I know I have a couple of ways to handle it.

How is the carrier to know not to fold it if it is not marked "do not bend" or prepared in a stiff mailer? (I don't know if this was the case with your book of course)  A stiff mailing container would be best for anything valuable.

because a hardcover book would take a lot of effort to fold, & the resistance of the package & the effort taken to fold the package would alert most good mail carriers not to bend it

Sorry.  I didn't note that it was a hardcover book.  That is horrible!

Helps to have a postal person that is a bookworm. Mine is, the books always are inside my storm door.
