I have seen several users that have been here for a while (I can tell by looking when their books were posted) who have no profile page.

Just out of curiosity, why would someone choose to not have one? (Just bulletin board, bookshelf, whishlist and reviews). I like looking at them to see info about the person and when they joined.

Jessica--

Not all members choose to get involved enough to make a profile (they just want to swap books), some are very private with their information, and some just haven't gotten that far yet -- at least those are my experiences in talking with folks on PBS.

Cheers,

Catt

some people never do anything on PBS but trade books. They don't go to the forums or put anything else into it other then listing and ordering books.

Until recently, I didn't do anything but trade books and PM with those people so I'm guessing some members didn't even think to look for their profile or just don't want to have more info public than necessary.

Privacy is a major concern. My teen had a kid who became obsessed with her to the point he would come stand in our tree line and watch for her to leave the house or monitor her Facebook account to see what she was doing. After a call to the police, we learned very quickly that sharing even the tiniest bit of info online is risky.

It's topic that comes up once in a while. Bascially, it's what ever makes the member feel more comfortable. And it's not really info needed to trade books, so it's not necessary to have.

Hmmm. I know it is weird, especially since I do post here on the discussion boards, but I don't do other profiles or much of anything else yet.  We've had instances of stalking in our family, and I'm not comfortable yet with stuff.  I don't go even go on Facebook or anything even though the kids and other family members are on there.  I guess this is as wild or open as I get for now.

It took me some time to include a profile , I wasent sure what to say other than Yes , I like books....LOL

I can understand the "Privacy " thing though. and that some people just want to trade and not get involved in the forums.

But , what I dont get is some people chose not to show their  book shelf....?  What the heck  ?

If someone's bookshelf does not show, I believe it means that they have it on vacation hold. Mine is on hold because I am in a different state than my book stash, so my bookself shouldn't show.

If someone's bookshelf does not show, I believe it means that they have it on vacation hold.

Or they don't want their kids, neices, nephews, neighbors or relatives to see what they're trading.

Sometimes, relatives can be way too nosy. Sometimes, lots of people you live and work with can be way too nosy, and decide to give you a hard time over book choices.

When I was looking for books on my RL , I found a book on my list so I thought I would look at their shelf to see if they had anything thing else I wanted  , and it said " We're sorry this member has chosen not to share their book shelf "  Or something like that...???

The one book on my RL came up , but nothing else would . So I dont think it was on hold.

I can understand not allowing people to see your WL  ,because I have some that I'd rather not have family know about ...LOL

some people are also die hard FIFO followers and don't believe in jumping the line even if it saves people postage.

I guess the old saying "it's not paranoia if they really are after you" applies here.

Your PROFILE can simply say what types of books you like to read --that's NOT going to allow anyone to stalk you and i worked for years with abused women who had to be taught how to stay hidden from their "exes".  No one has to write anything personal or "show" certain info to others (lots of options with the brand new features), but I'm not even going to look at your bookshelf if you don't have a profile that at least tells me the genres you most like.  ( I experimented with this last night and randomly looked at profiles and bookshelves of 50 people--BOY, was that a time waster ! )

And remember, folks, paranoia is a possible symptom of mental illness!  And yes, we have had identity stolen!
