I found the book rather boring. Hall's writing style is sometimes poetic and sometimes that writing becomes forced. The best parts were where Hall had to do some historical research of the book. I felt that she wrote those passages best.
A quiet corner of the Lake District. The rhythm of life in the sheltered community is disturbed when Jack Ligget, from industrial Manchester, arrives with plans to build a new reservoir. HIs affair with Janet Lightbutn can only lead to scandal, tragedy and desperate acts. A novel of love, obsession and the passing of an age.
