By nature I'm not a complainer but finally something on here really got my goat.  I had a mystery book by Kate Kingsbury wishlisted for a LONG time. I'm trying to complete the series before I read them and one of the last ones I need came through last night. I happily accepted it within 2 hours of it coming through.

Then it gets cancelled and this is the reason the person gave:

My book is a paperback in perfect condition.  As it is one of my
favorite books , I would rather keep it than risk getting no credit. I would
be happy to mail it to a requester that wants a paperback -- but I want
to know that I will receive credit for it.

I have NO idea what this person is talking about. It sounds like she thinks I was going to mark it "wrong book" or not mark it received or pull something shady. Why would she assume that???? I had no requestor conditions on this book (and the only one I have is that any HB's need a dust jacket) and actually requested a paperback as my other ones are too.

Don't post it if it's your "favorite" book and you're going to try to pick and choose who you give it to. Especially if it's wishlisted!!!

Okay, vent over. :)

Totally not fair, I agree with you.  If she wasn't going to trade the book, she shouldn't have listed it to begin with.  Sadly, this is probably one of those times when people don't clearly read a very basic condition and cancel books based on that.  Or that she's been burned before and takes it out on innocent people when she shouldn't.

Sorry this has happened to you...

Whoa that's a little weird.  If it's your favorite book then why are on earth did you post it?  Maybe you're better off not having a transaction with this person, hopefully another copy will come along for you quickly!

Hmmm... sounds like she read your RC's as if they said you only order HB's. What wording are you using?

P.S. I also think the cancellation was obnoxious... But I'd rather try to help make sure that your RC's are very clear, to prevent an accidental cancellation in the future.

can you contact her to ask her what she means?  That you requested a paperback and your condition was only for hb so you were really confused by her cancellation

I had someone PM confused because I had ordered a paperback and my RQ applied only to a specific hardcover series I am collecting. Another person cancelled an order (another paperback), saying it didn't meet my RQ. So I added "Unfortunately, Requestor Conditions pop up for every book ordered, even when they clearly don't apply to the book I am requesting" to my RQ to hopefully clear up any possible confusion. It's almost funny really, that there are people that can't seem to read (or understand what they read?) here on a book swapping site.

My RC basically says "One little request, if you're sending a HC please make sure it has an intact dust jacket." Short and simple.

I can't PM her back because that message came from PBS - you know where you have to type in the reason for cancelling the book?  It doesn't give a name. And yeah, I thought it was a bit obnoxious. I'm wondering if she had "poster's remorse!"  lol I don't post my favorite books ....

Funnily enough, the book, which has been wishlisted for over a month, got posted again to my wishlist. I'm wondering if it's the same person?

I had a "please include DJ w/ HCs" condition - someone turned me down becasuse their hardback pop-up book didn't have a DJ.

I felt compelled to add "if it originally came with one" to clarify even further. Honestly!

An update already - it was the same person and this time I get a PM with the subject line "I will get my credit, won't it??"

;-0

I sent her back a PM, an explanation and directed her to the help docs. And I find that totally obnoxious when people do that on here ...... maybe not so much anymore! lol

Count me as one of the people who would have denied your request.  I've got a few hardcovers on my shelf that never came with dust jackets.  But how do I know that the requestor knows that they never came with dustjackets?  I figure the requestor obviously has a dust jacket issue - and i'm not willing to risk loosing my credit just because of that.

I can't even begin to say hw terrible that must make you feel. I just had an incident where something like that happened...and I was in awe and still am.

I am very sorry and would report this to PBS Administration.

Don't let this person get away with this behavior.

Regards,

Carly

Just wanted to chime and and say it's that they think you want ONLY HCs.  It's not even because of your wording, some people just do not stop and think it through.  I have BTDT, only for me people would refuse to send me audiobooks because they thought I only wanted bound books.  ("No loose pages, plesae" was all my RCs said)   You just cannot win sometimes.  I absolutely prefer HCs to have their DJ, too, but I have decided that it's not worth the RC hassle. :-p

Wellllll, I'm with Nancy on this one - to me that's a really nice way of saying you only want hardbacks that include their dust jackets.  Try to think of this way:  Put in "Would you please include DJ w/ HCs".  That's how I see it - to me, the "would you" part of the request is implied.  If it didn't matter, why would it be listed as a condition to the trade?

Susan said "I had no requestor conditions on this book"

But of course from the sender's point of view, the conditions pop up as if they are they apply to your request for that particular book.

If the sender is experienced, they understand that the conditions pop up for everything, but it wouldn't look that way to a newer member.  It might look as if you thought that particular book was a HB.  If you reread what she said with that in mind, she's not saying she doesn't want to send the book to anyone, only that she wants it to go to someone who will love it and appreciate it, rather than to someone who wants only hardbacks.  She's not saying you're a lousy person who won't give her credit, but, at least the way I read it, she doesn't want to risk sending a paperback to someone who she thinks is asking for a HB in the conditions, and who therefore would want the credit back.

I don't read her as being rude.  It just looks like a misunderstanding to me.

maybe they didnt understand what HC ment, I know that abbrivations are very common place now and most people know what they mean but some still have trouble with it (my grandma included lol she is always asking what something i abbrivated means).  What might be very clear to you can be very confusing to others

I agree Jacqueline - not everyone knows what HC means and DJ and PB and TPB and MMB.   I'm pretty savvy at that type of thing but admit if I hadn't read all of this thread DJ would have thrown me.
