A great, long read that will keep you busy for a while. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
This was really a good book....both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.
I loved this book. It is definitely a tear jerker.
Clementine Kennicutt is a proper Bostonian lady until she literally bumps into Gus McQueen and elopes with him to Montana. Hannah Yorke is the town prostitute who becomes a prosperous landowner, though she is forever marked by her past. And Erlan Woo is a young Chinese picture bride whose heart remains in China. These three seemingly mismatched characters become fast friends.
All her life,Clementine Kennicutt has been filled with restless longing.A ladylike New Englander, she yearns to escape the chafing authoritarian rule of her pious, unforgiving father.Clementine has never metanyone remotely like Gus McQueen. So when the cowboy with the laughing eyes and big, urgent dreams presses her to elope with him to his Montana ranch, she is ready. But nothing had prepared her for the harsh realities of frontier life or for the unpredictable hankering of the heart-least of all for the fact that almost from the first moment she set eyes on Zach,Gus's dashing ne'er-do-well brother, she knows he's the one she was destined to love.Possessed of a rare spirit and courage,Clementine determines not to let the frontier defeat her as she strives for happiness and fulfillment within her fragile marriage.
If you've ever had a hankerin' to go to Montana, this is the romance novel for you. Full of time period details and the descriptions of the land, the weather, the aura of the whole experience of living in Montana left me aching for my next road trip.
I enjoyed this story about frontier life where the characters face one rousing adventure after another, Shoot-ups,storms a mine explosion to mention a few.
From back of book: She was torn between two brothers. All her life proper Bostonian Clementine Kennicutt yearned to escape the pious tyranny of her father's rule. So when Gus McQueen rode into town and swept her off her feet, she was ready for him. Eloping with the carefree cowboy was the answer to her prayers.....until she met his brother.
