Gritty hard-boiled suspense thriller from the all but hopeless streets of Washington D.C.'s worst neighborhoods. Pelecanos's rich eye for detail and his gift for the speech patterns and slang of black D.C.'s mean streets drags the reader right down into the violence and racism his characters endure day in and day out. Excellent storyteller, excellent book.
Char. drinks too much and has a thing for massages, women, and cadillacs. Not too bad, good guys book
I like the detective character but plot somewhat weak and uninteresting.
"Hell to Pay" is another Pelecanos masterpiece. A great read!
Groan, groan...like a bad tv episode. How did this ever get published?
Great book in the series by G. Pelecanos, he accurately and brilliantly portrays life in the poverty areas of DC, life of addiction and crime, and the men that try to break the cycle.
You will enjoy it, I would say.
A terrific thriller, fast moving and compelling.
An intricate thriller, fast paced and compelling. "The voice of Pelecanos - raspy, brutal, vivid, moving - is one not to forget."
