I think I asked this question a few months ago, but now can't find the answer.....

I think it's either Stephen King, or Dean Koontz. All I remember is that it was set in a small town in maybe Arizona or Nevada, in the desert. There's something strange underground going on, I think it finally eventually ended up being some sort of government plot. I believe that I read it in the 1990's. I know I really liked it and would like to read it again, if anyone can help me figure out the title is!

Thanks!

That sounds alot like Desperation by Stephen King, but I don't think it ended up being a government plot though.  One of my favorite King novels.

Dean Koontz's Strangers is also similar in plot and involved a government conspiracy, but I don't remember anything going on underground.

Both of these are really good books.

Could be Strangers by Dean Koontz maybe.

Thanks Michael and Diane! I did order both of them, they sound good anyways, so I will see if either is the book I'm looking for. I haven't read any sci-fi in years really, except time travel, so am looking forward to reading these books!
