Please help me decide which Marian Keyes  book to read next...

This Charming Man

Watermelon

Both books seem to have some pretty rave reviews.  I have both sitting in front of me and I just cant decide between them!

Definitely Watermelon. I could barely get through "This Charming Man. "  I thought it was one of her worst books. The main characters just seemed to keep whining and taking crap from the guy who was the central character.

You're welcome! I also really enjoyed "Last Chance Saloon" but I don't think it's a favorite of many people here. it has some darker themes, but I really liked some of the characater. I read it about ten years ago, so I cannot recall specifics.

For other Irish authors, I suggest Melissa Hill, Cathy Kelly, Patricia  Scanlan and Sheila O'Flanagan.   A lot of their books area available. here.

Take care,

Sherry

I didn't realize Marian Keyes had a book called This Charming Man.  I do believe Watermelon is my favorite book by her.  Last Chance Saloon was also one of my favorite.  I find that most of her books center around dark themes, but they always teach you a little something about life.  Love her writing.

Another great Irish Author is Cecelia Ahern - she wrote the book PS I Love You which was subsequently made into a movie.

And a litle known fact, her father was the irish Prime Minister, Bertie Ahern, for many years recently.

Of course, Maeve Binchy, is also Irish

I thought the book PS I Love You was so much better than the movie!

I liked both Watermelon and This Charming Man, but they are very different.  Watermelon is more along the lines of her typical writing.  It took me quite a long time to read This Charming Man (but I did like it, I know I'm in the minority here.)

Oh, and I loved Last Chance Saloon.  That was the first Marian Keyes book I read and I've been hooked ever since.

I just got This Charming Man in the mail. That baby is 800 page long !!   I wasn't expecting that. It will have to sit on TBR until I take a long trip and can invest that much time in it.

800 pages? Wow! Her books are long, but they are fast reads. Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married was 600-something pages, and I read it all one Sunday when I was confined with mono.
