I guess I am getting old.  I remember reading a book and can't remember all of it, and can't remember who the author was or the title.  What I remember is the main character is a woman, and she is tough.  I think she has tattoos on her body and they are alive themselves.  Seems to me that they were kinda funny.  I think her mom was the same as her and passed down her "powers" when she died.  I remember she met up with a guy and she protects him.  Urban fantasy-type book.  Can anyone help?  thank you very much,

The only thing that sounds familiar is the Karen Chance dark series where the tattoos act as magical wards for protection.

Michelle Sagara's Cast in Courtlight/Shadows/Secret series has the living tattoos, and is urban fantasy.  She also has a male sidekick, but is an orphan.

Even if it's not the one - I highly reccomend the series!

do you remember roughly how long ago you read the book?  that might help narrow down possibilites.

I am sure I've read this story.  I think the one I read was part of an anthology.  I can't recall the title or author, either.

Hmmm, well, as to how long ago I read it...   probably last year sometime.  I am a reading fiend so I don't know whether that will help you or not.  I probably read 2-3 books a week, or more.

An anthology.  That might help me.  I know I have saved several anthologies and maybe I still have it at home.  That seems like a possiblity.

thank you for everyone's questions/help.  I will let you know if I figure it out  LOL

I know its not the On The Prowl Anthology, because I have that here, and I checked it.    Its not the Beyond The Dark Anthology, either.    This is driving me crazy.  Please let me know, when you find this story.

OK.  How about this:  The story is called Hunters Kiss by Marjorie M Liu in the Wild Thing Anthology.   What do you think?   Did I win? (LOL).

Betsy

**Check the author's website.  I think she's writing more stories like this.

I really hate it when I can't remember an author, or the title of the book I'm thinking about! I've fixed that problem by creating a 'Character' spreadsheet. It sure helps. However... BEFORE I created that, I read a book, had to be in the last year, I'm picturing a Harley motorcycle shop, three women working there and an old guy runs it. The old guy has pretty much raised one of the girls. A gang of bikers comes in and blah blah, they're going to have a party and all are invited. I know that there's shape-shifters... OH! and one of the three girls is a really tough girl - kicks butt if need be. I think there's a motorcycle that got smashed and the gang is at the shop to get it fixed. I really hope someone recognizes this - as you can see - it's using up a lot of my brain-drive!! I'm thinking it's in an anthology. Thank you for any help!

I don't think so. I've read that but the motorcycle stuff doesn't ring any bells with me. I don't think I've read the book she's looking for.

PACK CHALLENGE! That's it - Thank youElisabeth! I looking into buying some other books by her but the older ones are very expensive so I went with ebooks. A little over $5 a piece isn't a book in hand (per se) but at least I can read it!!

Thank you, Everyone, for you're help. I've pulled this out of my 'keep forever' box of books. If I don't quit re-reading books, I'll never get through the new ones!
