The book was probably from the 1980's or early 90's.
The book was about a small animial that was a dentist for all the other species of animals. One of the pages showed him at the top of a ladder working in the mouth of a large animal. The dentist was commited to treat all animals. One day a fox came into his office with a terrible tooth ache. Under anesthesia the fox muttered how how he would like to eat the dentist and his wife. The fox's dental treatment required 2 visits. After the first one he left still drowsy and with some discomfort. The dentist knew that he was in danger of being eaten when the fox returned to get his new tooth.
The dentist made a plan to outsmart the fox. On the second visit the dentist put temporary glue on the fox's teeth so the fox could not open his mouth at the office with his new tooth. The fox had planned to eat the dentist with the new tooth, but instead just thanked the dentist and left
