Can you please help me find this book?  It is an older book.  I remember that it is part of a collection of short stories.  I can't remember if it was released around a holiday, but I'm seeing the cover as green and gold....it is either a collection of stories about Scotland or Ireland, I can't remember which.

The story that I am remembering and wanting to read is about a lady that goes to stay in a house or castle, I can't remember which and I can't remember what draws her there.  There is a couple that keep the place during the day, but no one will stay at night.  The lady meets the lord of the manor and I'm sure his name is Ian, he is a ghost and they fall in love.  There is something I can't remember about the way he died...something like a long standing war because there was a battle and he survived but the enemy did not.  In the end she is outsite an area of the castle that is still in ruins and she is seeing this battle....through the fog he sees her and then everything fades away and she knows he is gone forever.  Someone calls her name and she turns around and it is not him, but it is him...the current day him.  She knows the difference.  He is some kind of realtor or something, I just can't remember, but he was coming to check to see how her stay in the house was going.  When he sees her he shows her a necklace, a locket he found playing in the ruins as a child.  It is her picture.  She had given it to the other guy.  She walks into his arms and says something like "Hold me Ian and never let me go" and he says "Never, I promise" or something to that effect.  I remember is was a sweet love story and would love to find it again.  Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

Melissa

It sounds like something out of either Haunting Love Stories or Bewitching Love Stories.  Shannon Drake is the author that comes to mind when I think of it.  I can't quite find a story that fits your description though.

I know I've read it, too, but I can't think of what it was.  I've been through my transaction archive and nothing fit, but I'll keep trying.

It also sounds vaguely like a Harlequin Temptation but I know that's not it because the HT takes place in the US.  Same kind of ending though.  Falls in love with a ghost and the ghost finally has to leave.  She turns around at the end of the book and there's the modern day descendent of the ghost.

Doesn't Lynn Kurland have some similar plot lines?  I don't know if she's written any short stories though.

This ones really driving me crazy because I feel like I can almost "see" the cover.  I'm almost convinced it was a St. Patrick's day release but that doesn't even make sense, maybe that was part of the title, I'm just not remembering.  This one is gonna make me nuts!  Melissa

Are there any other sites I could post my question on?  I'm not familiar with any books sites other than PBS.  I know authors have their own sites for their own books, but are there other places that exist like this where I may be able to find help?

Thanks,

Melissa

There are lots of GoodReads groups where you can ask questions, or the All About Romance boards, or "whatsthatbook.com"

It really sounds like Lady of the Locket by Melanie George. It was in the anthology A Very Gothic Christmas along with Christine Feehan’s After the Music.

Lady of the Locket by Melanie George

The echoes of history and romance lure Rachel Hudson to Glengarren, the Scottish castle where her parents met many Christmases ago. But it is the portrait of fierce Highlander Duncan MacGregor that sparks an inexplicable yearning inside her. On a storm-tossed night, as lightning cracks across the castle's turrets, Rachel finds herself face-to-face with MacGregor himself, astride a mighty stallion. Now, stepping into Rachel's time--and her heart--the warrior from the past is pursued by an ancient, evil enemy....

It was released in I believe 1999 around Christmas. Rachel does fall in love with the ghost. If I remember right Duncan once knew her grandmother or another relative and she resembles her. There is a fight scene. It might have been rereleased in another anthology at some point.

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!  THAT'S IT!

I can't believe it!  Thank you so much to everyone for your help!

The cover is different, so it must have been released at a different time, etc., or my memory is not as good as I think!

I am so excited, I can't wait to read this again!

Thank you!!!!

Also, if you ever get stuck trying to locate a book and can write up a witty little synopsis of whatever random things you can remember, you can always try www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com  They have a regular feature called HABO or Help A Bitch Out where they try to identify a book for you- usually successfully!
