It was a historical about a British woman divorced from her husband who becomes a courtesan. She lives in Venice and she took some incriminating letters from her ex that he wants back. He keeps trying to have her killed for them.
Hero is a half British/half Italian spy who wants out of the business. He is a master of disguise and impersonates a servant in her opera box one night.
She has a room full of cupids (painted on the ceiling) and she refers to it as the room of the penii because of all the little naked penises.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Lol. The naked cherub room was one of my favorite parts of that book:P Most of the rest of it reminded me of Jo Beverley, but I'm not sure where I got that association from. Something to do with A Lady's Secret, maybe.
