I have a book that is close to getting over due that I sent out. I went to check the location and noticed that it says PR, which I googled and it said Puerto Rico. The mailing label I sent out was Media mail and was the same price as anything to the US would be. Wouldn't Puerto Rico be more cost to mail?

I don't think so.  You can go to the USPS site to see - or you can go to the USPS Regulations forum here at PBS to ask those professionals about it!  they are a great resource.

No it doesn't cost more.

Books that get mailed to Puerto Rico (and Hawaii and Alaska) can often take longer than the 4 allotted weeks. The person who ordered your book is probably used to books going lost and then receiving them later.

Yes, it does take longer.  With Alaska and Hawaii I can almost always count on those taking longer than it does to declare them "lost".  I always wait  a little longer ( up to 2 weeks) to make sure they are lost.  They've always shown up for me after declared "lost".  So don't rush your judgement on them beig lost.  ( Also applies to going to overseas military bases.)

I figured that it would take longer to ship it. Just freaking out that it was going to be postage due for the person or get sent back to me.

Thanks everyone :)

I've shipped to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico and it does take longer - in the case of Hawaii and Puerto Rico they ship by boat (ship).  My book to Hawaii took 6 weeks, the one to PR took only about 2-3 weeks but I expected it to go lost.  The first one to Alaska got there within a week, but it went first class.  It might go lost, but it will probably get there and then you'll get your credit.  The book I sent to PR I was going to send first class, but it weighed too much to justify that.  Good luck.  Pat

I do recommend using DC for PR, HI and AK.  The media rate takes forever.  First class doesn't.
