I'm NOT a Nora Roberts fan.  That being said, I lost a bet with my sister and my due is to read a Nora Roberts book - her favorite author.  LOL  So help me out here - what would you say is the BEST NR book you've read?  I'd prefer a stand alone....

Here are a few of my favorites:

Montana Sky

High Noon

Birthright

Tribute

Key Trilogy

Born In Trilogy

Dream Trilogy

Garden Tilogy

Look her up on a booksite and read the reviews,  you may suprise yourself and get hooked on her :)

Enjoy,

Sherri, Montana Sky is about 3 sisters who inherit a ranch when their father dies. I don't know if it 'd be classified as a western or not. I thought it was a good book but I also am a fan of Nora Roberts.

For stand alones I like Three Fates, Blue Smoke, Angels Fall, Northern Lights.....

Some of Nora Roberts' books are among my faves!

for a western, Lawless had great recommendations from several on this forum a while back. I haven't read it yet.

I love the Born In trilogy, esp the 2nd and 3rd books. Montana Sky for suspense,. the three sisters island trilogy deals with witchcraft. there are also the shorter silhouettes that have been republished 2 to a book and there are severa good ones there if you're wanting short. the Calhouns are good and Megan's mate isa tie in to those. one reprint includes that one in it. The Ohurleys and stars of mithra are good. I enjoyed 'the right path' a shorter politicalyincorrect one but good!

one problem with hers is she writes a lot of trilogies and series so to ge tto the best ones IMO you would have to skip some of the earlier in the series and miss a bit of the background.

Does it have to be Nora Roberts, or can it be one of her "In Death" series, under the name J D Robb?   I love those.   I'd start with the first one, Glory in Death.

I think 'naked in death' was the first one..just listened to these first 2 on audio...VERY good by the way! I'm planning on finishing the series but took a break for a while for other stuff.

also, if you're not wanting to read try listening to one..different experience!

hmm,,maybe I should do the same.pick an author I don't like and find something of theirs to read or listen to on audio.

I love all Nora Roberts books, but my favorite is Honest Illusions, it's a standalone book! All the books that have been recommended are all great books too!

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/r/nora-roberts/    Just scroll down to the "Novels" section and select something from that list. Looks like she has alot to choose from, good luck!

Naked in Death was the first of the In Deaths.  A futuristic setting in New York about a Police detective-Eve Dallas and her interaction with the mysterious and  powerful Roake.  Awesome series.

I really liked Northern Lights takes place in Alaska.

Angel's Falls was good too.

If you like Westerns Montana Sky is a good choice.

All great recommendations. I'm a fan so it's hard to choose one. Montana Sky is my favorite. One that was not mentioned, if your looking for something dark, Divine Evil! It truly was evil. Divine Evil is not your typical Nora romance. Yes there still is romance, but with a lot of evil too.

LOL, Sherri. I'm a Nora fan but I feel for you just the same. It must have been quite the bet. Hopefully you make it through this ok. We are here as support. ;)

Divine Evil! It truly was evil. Divine Evil is not your typical Nora romance. Yes there still is romance, but with a lot of evil too.

I agree, lots of evil - in fact, after I read it,I had to do a comfort re-read of a Susan Andersen to get the taste of Divine Evil out of my system!! I haven't felt this way about a book since I read The Exorcist some (mumbly-odd) years ago. And yet, I had to give it a good rating because it was well-written and did what it was supposed to do which is scare the bejeezus out of me!!

Interestingly, on Shelfari 1 reviewer said it was hilarious, another called it "smart, funny and hot". Maybe they didn't actually read it? I didn't find anything to actually laugh about in Divine Evil! But if you like thriller/horror/evil, you might like it!

I guess I'll have to break down and read Montana Sky - I made the mistake of renting the movie and... well, you know how books don't always translate well to movies? I didn't like it very much. But I loved the Born In trilogy, and the Chesapeake Bay/Quinn Brothers series!

Montana Sky was the first Nora Roberts I remember reading(might have read one of the shorter silhouettes but it wasn't something I associated with that author) and I was hooked...it was more suspense I think than romance per se but I really enjoyed it. Then I read Born in Ice and realized Id missed the first book, Born in Fire then the 3rd Born in Shame..the first wasn't my favorite (the fiery tempered sister) but the others were great.

Montana Sky, the book, was so much better than the movie. I really didn't care for any of the Lifetime movies based on her books, but then I don't know how any 350+page book crammed into a 2hr TV movie could not be disappointing.

I didn't think Divine Evil was funny either. It's one of her books that I really didn't care for because I just didn't like the subject.

I didn't like any of the Lifetime movies either.  But I rarely like movies made from books.  They miss so much and change so much that it doesn't even appear to be the same story at times.

Ha Ha Collette!  Thank you - yeah, it was a doozy.  And my sister knows how I despise Nora Roberts so that was her first thought when we realized she was in fact, the winner.  Bummer!   Now see, I was going to be nice and "make" her read Outlander!  See what a great sister I am?  LOL

Oh you are the nicer sister! I'm listening to the Outlander right now in the car and fell in love all over again after reading it twice. That would certainly not be a hardship. :D

Sherri, I would cheat and read one of her harlequins! . Cordina's Crown Jewelor Irish Rebel  are my faves among the harlequins. Or you could read a historical harlequin (which was really good, if I remember right) Lawless

Or you could read a good suspense...Montana Sky  (western), The Villa (vineyards), Hot Ice  (short but packed full of action), or Sweet Revenge (Arabs and jewel thieves), oh and The Reef was pretty good, treasure hunting in the ocean.

To be honest, I haven't read a Nora Roberts book since I tried to re-read Northern Lights over a year ago, which was really good the first time around, but too lengthy to read a second time (she can be really wordy and flowery with her wording, IMO)
