Someone requested a book from me, and I sent it out weeks ago.  Then today, I received it back in the mail with the postal advice: "Recipient temporarily away. Return to sender." and charged me return postage!  Needless to say, I don't want to send it out AGAIN since now I'm out $5 and still no credits to show for it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance :-)

I'd like to know why the post office returned it because the recipient was "temporarily away"?  I think that is something I would want the USPS to explain.

I'm curious about this, too.  Any USPS staff reading this?

Yeah if their mail was being held, the PO should have held the book. I would PM the requestor. It's possible this was a postal error and you might be able to get your money back and get it reshipped.

Maybe they've been incarcerated or committed! So "temporarily" could be quite a while. Hmmmm...how interesting.
