I'm trying to remember this series/author and am stuck. It's kind of Sci/Fi, kind of Parnormal Romance, so I'll post in both communities. Main character is a girl and the first book opens with her and her brother riding as scouts for a caravan. (Sort of an old west/gypsy theme but alternate universe type setting). She has an affinity with wolves, but it's not a shifter book. She leaves the caravan following the call of some wolves and I think saves some cubs. Eventually reunited with her group. There are two or three books that continue the saga. I think (if I'm not mixing it up with another) a later book has them entering an abandoned plague-ridden compound of a previous era and lost technology. Might have been storyline about being taken as slaves at one point. (Again, may have been mixing up books.) There's a romantic thread, but I wouldn't call that the focus of the book. Sorry, I know this is jumbled, but does it ring a bell with anyone? The part I'm really solid about is the beginning with her and her brother riding scouts. There's an uncle involved also. Lots of fighting skills, honor, duties, maybe some special powers or at least honed instincts. Last Edited on: 7/22/10 2:32 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Kate Elliot's Jaran series sounds like the world. But not the wolves. How about Jane Lindskold for the wolves? |

it's been quite a while since i read them, but to me this sounds like the Tara K. Harper series that starts with Wolfwalker. she's a healer with a link to a wolf. the bits about saving cubs, and the part about later they run into plague and lost technology sound right, and i'm pretty sure there was a brother. i don't recall any romantic parts, but it has been years. i don't have the book anymore, so i couldn't check to see if the opening looked right. but i did find this review that covers some plot points, so you can see if that sounds right. |

Emily - thanks for the help. Not the one I was looking for, but sounds interesting. I'll have to check out that author. Hurray! Yes, Ellen - it was Tara K. Harper. Thanks so much! I think I was muddling the plots of her Grey Wolf series and Black Woldf series, but it's definitely her. |
