The title of the book is The Wild Thing, at least I'm pretty sure it is.  I believe it is young adult because I remember borrowing it from my junior high library.  My problem is the with the deluge of information about the upcoming movie Where The Wild Things Are and the series of young girl books Wild Things, I can't sift through or narrow my search.

If it helps it is the story of a young girl who runs away into the woods, determined to live on her own(maybe running from something) and she steals a goat and learns to live off cheese (from the goat) and the land.  One day she comes across an injured boy and she nurses him back to health and she ends up pregnant.  The boy either dies or goes back to civilization and she has the baby in the wilderness, her only token of him a necklace.......

After that I can't remember and its been bugging me.

Is it A Wild Thing by Jean Renvoize?  The description mentions two goats and a boy.

I found an article on JSTOR that makes me think it is this book.  Unfortunately, I can only read the first page.

(In case you were wondering, I searched Goodreads for "wild thing" and read descriptions until I found a likely match.)

Oh, thank you very much.  I looked up the author and the cover looks familiar.  I'm sure it is the same book.  I'll have to checkout Goodreads, too.  I'm trying to collect all the books I loved or stuck with me somehow and that was the one giving me the most trouble.  Thank you again. XD

It's not a sure thing because not all books have a description, but it worked in this case. :)

I might need to see if I can find a copy now...it looks pretty good.
