It's been awhile since I asked so thought I'd try again.

Years ago I read a book thaat starts off with a young woman falling through a thatch roof and getting stuck there.

This happens just as the knight that has come to take over her lands and marry her ( by the Kings edict ) arrives.

The roof is the home of the local  healer/witch,  the knight is dreaded and the girl is somewhat independent.

Does anybody have a clue about the title or author of this book?

Thanks

Sheri

This sounds familiar.  I think I might have read it.  Did the cover have a handsome knight (of course) kind of sitting and a beautiful blond behind him and kind of leanign over him? I'm picturing the cover of the book I'm thinking of but can't remember the title.

Hmm...  Is it What She Wants by Lynsay Sands?

That's exactly the book I was thinking it was. But I read it so long ago I don't remember what. But the cover came to mind.

I've never read it myself, but your description of the cover brought it to my mind:P  How funny is that?  Hope that's it.  The AAR review sounds like it could be.

Desire by Amanda Quick has a thatched roof scene, but it is at the end.  Teresa Medeiros is the first name that pops into my head.  But the books don't fit the scene although they fit the mood.

It sounds like it might be Lynn Kurland to me. Do you remember if it had any sex scenes?  I'm almost sure it's not Medeiros, I don't remember that from any of her books.

What She Wants by Lynsay Sands

that's the same one i was thinking of, but i know he's come to marry her due to his uncle's will, and i'm not sure about the roof thing.  it does match the healer/witch part, and the independant part.

Amazon has the view the first pages option on What She Wants.  And it does not start with the thatch scene.  But the healer/witch was a popular theme for a time.  I know there are more books with that.

Scratch Desire,  that's not the book,  it sounds good though so I think I'll read it

So, not a Kurland or a Medeiros, not Desire and not What She Wants.

So far I've tried here on PBS, AbesBooks, Fictiondb,  so far I'm the only person in the world that ever read this book!

Of course,  I was recovering from heart bypass and on good drugs so maybe I just dreamed it!

Desire was one of Amanda Quick's very few medieval/knight books.  (Was there 3? The gem one, the perfume one, and?)  Her earlier books have much more humor than the mysteries she is doing now.  But in Desire the older women is a healer and nun.

I am assuming the one you are looking for was a medieval.  Am I wrong in assuming it was slightly humorous?  It sounds so familiar.

Hi Emily,

The parts I remember were humorous, although I'm sure it also had a serious plot line

betrayal death destruction ect. before living happily ever after.  I think the roof bit was a aprt of the synopsis.

Been looking for it along time now.

"Hi. I know this book if you still need the answer. I read it years ago and it's hysterical and cute. The author is Sandra Lee and the title is Love At First Sight. You can get it used at paperbackswap.com or half.com.
You should get it, you'll love it.
Maura"

Looking up Sandra Lee here at PBS is hiliarious.  There are the romances.  Then there is a book called Kathy the Cannibal (she stabbed him 37 times, then served him as a meal for her children.)  right next to Semi Home Made Deserts.
