My WL is set on AR. I don't like having to think about it. If I come in to an e-mail saying I don't have enough credits, I always buy them etc. So, I get a book posted, YAY! It AR and I'm waiting for it to be mailed. Today I get an e-mail from teh sender saying it has water damage, did I mind if they sent it anyway.

I replied very nicely, thanks for the heads up, but I'll just wait for the next copy to be posted, I didn't want a water damaged book.

I come back from my lunch break to see the book mailed e-mail. I also have a PM from teh lady saying the book was already wrapped, consider it a Christmas present. Okay, wonderful I appreciate the guessture, but I'm still out a credit. What's the best way to word my PM to her to get my credit back.

I know I'm due a credit, because I did not order a water damaged copy, but I don't want to be rude about it either. Every e-mail I draft doesn't feel right.

TIA!

I'd say:

While I appreciate your sending the book, unfortunately, I am still out a credit for it right now.  Since I said I did not want this book, I would appreciate a credit refund.

If that doesn't work, I'd then get a bit firmer in the next PM and say:

This book actually does not meet the PBS posting guidelines and should not have been posted in the first place.  I am asking again for a refund of my credit.

Unless she used printable postage, she does not have your credit yet, and she won't have it until you mark the book received. If she did use printable postage, then she can give you a credit now, but you'll still need to mark the book received or you'll get an extra one when it goes lost.

If she wants to give you this book, the best thing is for her to use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the screen and ask the PBS Team to cancel the transaction. The book will go back on your wish list, so make sure to remove it if you don't want another copy.

Oh, right!  I can't believe I messed that one up.  Thanks for the correction Cathy.

"While I appreciate such a nice gesture, the fact that you marked this book mailed has removed me from the WL line and taken my credit away. Please contact the site to let them know that you sent an unpostable book in error and ask them to cancel the transaction. If you want your damaged copy of the book back I can refuse delivery so it will come back to you, but I really would rather get the book in postable condition as soon as possible."

And I would also send copy of the correspondence to the site leaders and ask them if you can refuse delivery of the book since you told the sender not to send it.

Well, she sent me my credit back and while I'm not completely opposed to water damaged books, I just didn't want to get it and not be able to post it. So since I have my credit back and the book, all is well in my world. Thanks for the suggestions!
