I know the rumors of Gabaldon's Outlander series being made into a movie fly from time to time, but it appears that the ones about the Starz Network making it into a series are true....and, brace yourself, ladies. It appears they've cast Jamie:

Oh, dear.  Below is his You Tube snippet trailer:

He's just not my Jamie. He's too pretty....Jamie in my mind is rather large, scruffy, RED HAIRED and just well more masculine....

I saw this a few days ago and that was my immediate reaction, too.  I keep trying to imagine this kid with long red hair, and it still doesn't compare to my Jamie.  I may have to skip this series....

He's just a little too chiseled looking!  I always thought of Jamie as more of a brawny type.

They have been talking about this on DG's facebook page and she says this is how she envisioned Jamie, tall (the actor is 6'3") powerful but with lean muscle, not bulky.  He might be a bit too pretty from what I imagined but all in all I am satisfied.  I am just glad they cast a relative unknown and that he is Scottish.  Now I can't wait  to see who will play Claire and Frank/Black Jack.

I think the picture they have of him there is not a good one.  I looked him up on IMDB and some of the pics they have of him there are closer to what I envision for Jamie.  It will be hard to tell if he'll cut it until they work their makeup/wardrobe magic and transform him into Jamie.

How about Toby Stephens?

This is more what I was thinking...

Just a little shaggier in the hair...

Well idont have Starz, so i'll have to wait and see if it comes out on Netflix or the like. But as a redhead, i will say that heughan has the right coloring for it. He seems to be a versatile actor too, according to his show wheel. Giving him a chance. :-)

I'm going to give him a chance.  The photos that I've seen don't look all that promising, and they don't match MY imaginary picture of Jamie - but then what actor would?   I've always been in the camp that thought a relatively unknown actor would be best.    And a good actor can be "transformed" into the part.

My only reservation is how such a young actor will portray an older Jamie.  There is a 20-year jump in age in the series.   But I'll worry about that later - if the series makes it past the first season.

And I'm also eagerly waiting to see the actress that will portray Claire!

DG release a final statement on her discription of Jamie, because of the debate between the muscle bound Jamie camp and the other camp that sees him as she intended.  She said Jamie is 6'4" around 225 pounds, and has the body that resembles that of a basketball player not a football player.  You can tell she is sick to death of the subject.  Reading some of the facebook messages are rather entertaining.

Like Lynn I can't wait to see who else they cast, especially Claire and Frank/BJ.

I have been on the fence about watching this, but I may give the first season a try.  Many cable systems give you a free 3 month trial if you don't have Starz, so I might sign up and drop it after the 3 month trial.

Another thing they're gong to have to do in order to make this actor into an authentic Jamie is to give him a toupee - and I don't mean on his head.  It is mentioned several times in Outlander that Jamie had a very hairy chest and in the photos I've seen, the actor does not.
