I don't read a lot of paranormal books but wanted to give J.R. Ward a try. Which series should I start with Black Dagger Brotherhood or Fallen Angels?

Would love to your thoughts.

Thanks for your time

Tammy

I recommend the black dagger series. The problem to me is that after lover enshrined, which I believe is book 7, the series takes a turn for the worse. ward begins to have about 5 story lines per book, 4 of which continue onto the next book. There is also m/m that develops rather suddenly and in my opinion unbelievably after book 8. I would also skip the first book, dark lover as it's not that great. But, the rest of the series is great! =)

BDB, definitely.  although i think you have to read the first one.  *i* liked it just fine.

Fallen Angels is darker, and harder to get into, and it is also set in the same world with some very quick crossover, so those crossover bits aren't until later in the BDB series as she started writing the Angels one later.

I'm surprised Evelyn  didn't like the first one; I thought it was good too. I didn't like the one   with the weird 'sex' stuff, or how his wife did or did not survive. Can't stop reading them though, and I read both BDB and Fallen Angels.

I love both series equally, but for different reasons. I wouldn't skip any of the books and I loved them all.

hey Veronica,

I guess dislike is too strong a word for the first book-I guess it just didn't live up to how great the other ones were. It was decent don't get me wrong, just not one I would read over and over. which was the one where his wife did/didn't survive? I think I stopped loving the series after Johns' book which I think was lover mine. And lover enshrined dissapointed me massively. But that's just me =)

Yeah, I'll admit, I wasn't to crazy about John's book either. But you know what? There's one thing about Ward, her books are always done well. There's been a few books by most of the writers I read that have been major let downs. The first two I can think of is Kenyon and Sparks. I won't stop reading either of them, but there's been times when I wondered what happened; did they really mean to write a book that bad. There's been a few of Kenyon's that I didn't bother to finish. Ward always seems to keep up the pace of all her books, whether I like every book or not. I guess no one can like every book.

I scrounged money so that I could buy Lover at last on release day.  I normally don't buy hardbacks but I couldnt help myself.  It was a great read.
