This is book one in the "Betsy-Tacy" series, which is, IMHO, the best girls' series of all time.  The book follows the lives of Betsy Ray and Tacy Kelly from age 5 to high school graduation and beyond, in turn of the century Minnesota.  I absolutely ADORE all these books, and I buy the first few for every little girl I know on her fifth birthday.  There are 10 books in the series, plus 3 additional Deep Valley books.  If you have a little girl who loves to read, especially if she's a fan of series books, give this one a try!

I'll second this Hidden Gem from Erin.  These have been my favorite childhood books since the early 60's.  It's a must read for all.

These books are all awesome!  I have to put them up there as some of the best books ever written for children.

Aw, I had, and loved Betsy, Tacy, and Tib - didn't collect the series though. Have visited them again as an adult, love the sweetness.

I absolutely loved this series. I wish I could get my daughter into them but she's not a reader :(

oh I forgot about these!  I'm having a memory lane flashback.  I used to read them when I spent summers at my grandparents lake cabin in Minnesota!

Me too, I enjoyed them. And read them as an adult too.
