Great story about a songwriter and her loves and problems with being accused of a murderer of several husbands. How she comes to be a songwriter and singer while raising her daughter and the men she meets and loves. Very interesting how he weaves in a soccer star from England. Good story by Patterson.

Not your typical Patterson thriller, but written in the first person by a woman. He had a little help with this one... defintely a woman's hand. All in all it is a good book.

Very typical James Patterson, a good story, had some thrills, lacked reality but worth reading. Good beach read.

I have always been reluctant to buy anything by James Patterson or any author that publishes more then once a year. I'm even reluctant when an author publishes once a year and I think I know why.
During the last days I've listened to the audiobook "Hide and Seek" in the unabridged version. I can't say I didn't like it but I can't say it is good at all. It is predictable to the core. Rarely surprised I listened to the voice of Kimberly Schraf reading a story, good enough to listen to during chores. I actually began liking her voice but it is a bit monotone, lacking the passion needed to express for example anger or fear.

The story begins with Maggie Bradford, sitting in a prison cell. She sort of begins reading her own story from the begining of how she got there. She killed her first husband in self-defense. Her boyfriend died of an heart attack and her second husband's a psychopath and murderer. Now she awaits her trial.
During her reading a lifetime of fear, insecurity and mistrust unfolds around her personality which makes her likeable because it is fully understandable.

The (audio)book clearly missed deepness and gives the impression it would have been ok to publish it as a series in a newspaper but doesn't deserve any hype at all.

Maggie Bradford is forced to kill her husband in self-defense and in defense of her daughter. From there, Maggie rises to stardom as a singer-songwriter and loses a life partner to a heart attack and another husband, an internationally famous soccer star, to a murder. The question is, who killed Will Shepherd, the soccer star?

Not an Alex Cross novel, but still a true page turning beach read. This one tells the tale of a singer who is forced to kill her first abusive husband, and then finds herself in a new, equally scary mess. If you like Mary Higgins Clark novels and tales of women who get themselves into and out of jams you will enjoy this one.

Buddy read in my online reading group, The Reading Cove. I never really cared about the main characters, Maggie or Will. It has short chapters, but the story still manage to drag; seemed needlessly drawn, but never going anywhere. Seemed pretty pointless overall. Blah. Finished because it was TBR Potluck buddy read.

It was the trial that electrified the world. Not only because of the defendant, Maggie Bradford, the woman whose songs captivated the world's heart. not only because of the victim, Will Shepard, the world's most glamorous athlete. But also because everyone said Maggie murdered not just one husband, but two. And because in Maggie's world - the world she feared and despised but could not escape, the world of the powerful, the rich, and the ruthless - both death and life could never be what they seemed.

Very good. Takes a long, long time to get to the mystery part, but overall it was worth it. Patterson is the king of economy of words. Nothing wasted. Everything moving the action and emotion forward.

From James Patterson, bestselling author of KISS THE GIRLS and ALONG CAM A SPIDER, comes his most brilliantly realized thriller, a story that will shatter your expectations...and hold every last one of your nerves in thrall, with each twist of the plot and every turn of the page."

This book started out a little slow for me but, as always James Patterson doesn't disappoint. The book is spoken through several points of view but, yet it is very easy to understand. There are several twists and turns that keep you guessing till the very end.

Patterson was just learning his craft here, in one of his earlier efforts. Although a good read, it's a little rough around the edges. Stick with Patterson (if you're just getting started), and you'll find much more fulfilling efforts.
