I know you can't see my wish list here on the forums, but I think you can if you click on my nickname.  Is there any way to hide it?  I know I'm huge dork, but I would like to tell people I know (IRL) about PBS, but then I never do because I don't necessarily want to share with them some of my more risque taste in books.  My shelf isn't really a problem because most of the racy ones are WLed and never show up there anyway.  Feel free to laugh at me now.  :)

only way to do it is to hide your profile otherwise it is there for us to gawk at your risque taste in books!

I have a ton of yaoi books on my WL (if you don't know, you probably don't want to!).  At first, I was a bit embarrassed that people might see that, but the people here at PBS are for the most part, very friendly, understanding, and non-judgmental.

I've never gotten any grief for having risque taste, and like you, have my risque books snatched right up as soon as I post them.  So, I can't be the only "offender" here. *grin*

Yea, I'm not really concerned about what people here think....but when it comes to inviting my mom to PBS, well....it got me thinking!!!

But, now that I've hidden my profile, it also hides my shelf.  So that means no one can order directly from me, right?  Bummer!

Amy, I wouldn't worry about it- a lot of people (myself included) have books posted on their shelves that they have never read.  I get books at garage sales and thrift stores, or that people give me, or wherever else I can pick them up for cheap or free.  When you let people know about the site, you can tell them that this is a good way to bulk up their bookshelves, and suggest that you have done this as well- that way, they won't necessarily assume that those particular books are ones you have read.  I would do this over hiding your WL and thereby your profile, because like you said, now no one can order directly from you, so it would make it hard to run a deal.  Also, having your WL visible is helpful in case someone wants to post something directly to it.  So just say you bought a box of books at a garage sale for $1- no harm in a little white lie!

Lesley - I'm not really worried about my bookshelf -- it's my wish list.  It would be just like my mom to look me up here and check out my wish list so she could send me some books...a scenario I would like to avoid at all costs.  I don't want to send the poor woman into shock, lol!  Haha.  I'm sure I'm making this out to be much more than it is, but I am my mom's perfect little girl, after all!   Who am I to shatter that illusion?!  :)

Amy, you funny girl.  The option of hiding the WL, but not the rest of your profile, is brilliant.  Send it in as a suggestion.

I'm off to do that right now!

But then I'll also need a decoy wish list so she doesn't wonder where my wish list is...

KIDDING!

Well, that does make sense- though you could always say that you are ordering for someone else!

Yes, didn't you ever tell your mom about  your dear friend who has no computer access and likes raunchy books? ;-)

Now I'm going to be all paranoid about my wish list! Except everyone already knows I love trashy romances, so wth.

I'm a wishlist browser and certainly get ideas from the more risque readers. I've certainly marked books from someone else's list as a reminder on mine. You definitely have a point about people you know "browsing" your list though...bummer.

Hmm. See I have a lot of risque books that are WL in my TBR. But now I can't look at yours and see if I have any. I have several people on my Buddy List that have more than one of my TBR books on my buddy list so I can post them directly to them.

That's why I love those bookmates. No one can see your cover.

LOL!   I tried to peek too. Yeah Amy, I ordered mine from Bookmatesplus.com. I have one in the hardback size, one in the trade size and two in the paperback size. I love them all. So handy when reading hands free or eating lunch, and people have to ask what you're reading.

But if you want to support PBS, you can order the Booksmates from the PBS Kiosk.

I think it would be a great idea to be able to hide your wishlist if you choose to do so.  I will suggest it to R&R also.

I have to tell you though, Amy, that I don't like to look up a profile of - say, a requestor, and find the notation:  The Profile is Private, or however it is worded.  Might give me second thoughts about swapping with that member.

Might give me second thoughts about swapping with that member.

Really?  I never thought of that.  But how is it any different from someone who doesn't have a profile at all?

Bummer.  I went to look at your wishlist, but it was already private, LOL!   Yeah, I could see where having one's family and friends check out one's reading materials might not be such a great idea, but then, I keep rather than post all of my risque books <wink!!>

Amy, your relatives might not be able to see your wish list, but if they visit the forums, they can find this thread.
