Um. (asking with a beat red face) Are certain battery operated toys allowed on airplanes?  I saw a sitcom once where (as a joke) a friend put a giant one in a friend's luggage and they were singled out and humiliated in the baggage check.

I think they need to be in the checked baggage and not have batteries in them (security purposes) .

However I was carrying it, I'd be taking the batteries out of it and packing them separately.

gosh I don't know! I can't believe they'd be illegal packed in the suitcase and not carried onboard..you're safer not carrying anything on board they're so darn picky now.

I took a bunch of battery-operated toys on a plane recently...toys for my toddler son though, not for me. The security didn't have any problem with them or even take a close look, and they had batteries in them too. So I don't see why adult toys wouldn't be allowed. However, I can see dumb security people making a big deal simply because of what it is.

Exactly what kind and size toys we talking about here? There are tiny ones that many people wouldn't take notice of, then there are some real life-like and large toys that a person couldn't help notice...

I've taken 'certain battery operated toys' on planes before.  I always put them in my checked baggage with the batteries taken out.  I stick them in baggies, too, just in case my luggage is searched.  My bag got searched once, and not the other time.  I'd rather check it and not have the people know who I am than have it in my carry-on and have the screener people be able to see it and me.  I'd be so embarrassed!

Hey Mary,

Asked DH this as he used to work at the airport (not for TSA, thank god!).  He says checked luggage it is no problem.  He says you can take it as a carry on, but "They'll probably look at it.  It has two of the three components of a bomb; electronics and a power source."  He also said adult toys can be carried on but to remind you that you can't carry on lube (at least not much), LOL!

LOL, great question!! I've always wondered this but luckily I don't fly much and the last time was a short trip with my parents so I figured I could hold out for a few days, rather than have my dad find it or someone at the airport.

I've made a self-note. Thanks for the info! :D

Quite a few of my "toys" look like loaded weapons so I don't think I would carry it on!  Remember, you can't carry on more than 1.5 ounces of lube at a time! LOL

I woulnd't put it in your carry ons; I'd check it.  Imagine that being pulled out for closer inspection by a security guard!  The liquid limit is 3 oz., I think.

Kind of off-topic, but I can't help thinking about the fact that we're going to be visiting my MIL soon and sharing a room with our son for TWO WHOLE WEEKS.  AGGGGGGHHHHHH!

I would like to think she'll take him off our hands for at least some of the time, but my MIL is quite old (my husband was a menopause baby) and has very poor eyesight, so I suspect not.

When we visit the inlaws we have to share a room with our daughter.  We spent 3 wks there this summer.  We snuck off to the bathroom for a quicky a couple times while she was occupied with her grandparents.

I hadn't thought of that! Wish I could remember how big the bathroom is. ;-)

We might also try parking him in front of the t.v., I suppose, though he isn't a big watcher. I'll have to bring along our "Schoolhouse Rock" DVD, that'll keep him occupied for quite a while.

Their bathroom was small. There was really only one position we could do in there and we had to be quick and quiet.  DH had performance issues if he could hear his mother at all.  (and really, who could blame him for that?).  But it helped take the edge off.

I just came across this: http://store.babeland.com/vibrators-mini/babelight

and remembered this thread. Looks pretty discreet! Not to mention, handy. ;-)

They package lube in small single use foil packages.

DH had performance issues if he could hear his mother at all.  (and really, who could blame him for that?).

In order to keep any peace in my marriage, we never stay more than 3 days anywhere if my Mom is in residence!  Tell your hubby I totally get it!  Nothing to curb the feeling like that voice.  "What are you kids up to?!!"   My brother and his wife can't even sleep at my folk's house they get so uptight.  My Mom, who I truly love, was an Italian version of Hitler in a dress.  Even at 53, I can't "do it" at her house!

Anyway, about adult toys..... I found a vib that was just like a cell phone and the guy who searched my bag didn't even look at it twice!!!!  The other toys have to go in the suitcase.  If I don't check any luggage only the discreet ones get to go bye bye ( and my little fake cell phone).

I travel a lot for work.  One time when I went to pick up my luggage in baggage claim, there was a note attached to my bag.  It said my bag had to be opened because there was a "vibrating" sound.  I almost died, but then I realized I hadn't packed any "toys" that time-it was my electric toothbrush. I normally take the batteries out of it when I fly, but I guess I forgot...

LOL I was just going to suggest that! Oral B (what a great name) makes an all-in-one vibrating toothbrush. And it has options- nice solid handle with a little indent on one end and soft bristles on the other. And no one the wiser. Perfect. :D
