This cultural anthropology study was published as the phenomenon was vanishing, but is based on research conducted in 1967 and 1968 using the natural history method. Dr. Partridge considers sentiments and values, people and place, living and working together, activities, etc. He notes a limitation of his study is that he was known as a fellow student of some of the subjects at the time he did his field work, characterizing himself as a participant-observer.
