The writings from which the collection was made range over the entire career of Dean Griffin, including excerpts from his "Poor Richard" columns in the student newspaper, written from when he was an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, to the text of his formal speeches as Dean in Yale College. They include excerpts from memos, letters, and reminiscences written when he was a graduate student in History, a Freshman Counselor, an Assistant Professor in the History Department, Residential College Dean of Saybrook College, and Assistant and Associate Dean of Yale College. The portrait that emerges is filled out by descriptions of Martin by some of his friends and students, and by a number of photographs that also span the years.
As is promised in the Foreward by Sidney Altman, former Dean of Yale College. "This book gives a little more of Martin for a little longer."« less
