It isn't easy being a rabbi's wife in Eternal Texas. It's even harder being a rabbi's widow. In this book Essie Sue's obnoxious twin cousins are in town for pre-Bar Mizvah schooling. And somehow, Ruby (the rabbi's widow) has been roped into letting the terrible 12 year olds stay with her. Herman Guenther, the master lox cutter meets an untimely demise from his own slicing knife. Will Ruby solve the mystery? This is a great mystery series.

It isn't easy being a rabbi's wife in Eternal, TX. It's even harder being a rabbi's widow. More than a year after her husband's death, the congregation still expects Ruby to behave "appropriately." But sometimes it's hard to be pious and ladylike when you're investigating a murder.

I found it an above average cozy. The heroine is intelligent, introspective and very believable. She makes it through the day relying on herself first, her friends second and fending off those members of the community who expect her to be someone she isn't. It's a bonus for mystery readers that she stumbles over bodies along the way.

This "Kosher Kozie" is the fourth in the Ruby the Rabbi's Wife Mystery Series. In this mystery, Ruby travels from Texas to Alaska and on to New Jersy to solve the murder of a quiet "lox cutter." The combination of the Jewish and Texas cultures are hilarious and provide a wonderful "taste of Jewish American life." Some of the characters are a bit extreme but offer plenty of comic relief. The author includes in the story some interesting information about the history of the New York bagel industry. If you are looking for a fun, light-hearted "cozy." try HOLD THE CREAM CHEESE, KILL THE LOX.
