I couldn't wait to read this 4th in the series. It did not disappoint! The characters mature and grow in Home to Big Stone Gap.

I've enjoyed this series so much. These books are much like life, funny one moment, sad the next. There is such warmth and genuineness here, even with over-the-top characters like Iva Lou and Fleeta. Trigiani captures small town life perfectly, and knows how to explain a character's deepest fears and feelings without sounding sappy or artificial. Read and you won't be disappointed.

"Nestled in the lush Blue RIdge Mountains of Virginia, the town of Big Stone Gap has been home to Ave Maria MacChesney and her family for generations. But with her daughter, Etta, having glown the nest to enchanting Italy, Ave Maria has reached a turning point. WHen a friend's postcard arrives with the mesage "Start living your life for you," Ave Maria realizes that she must go in search of brand new dreams. But before she can put her foot on the path, her life is turned upside down: a lifelong friendship collapses when a mysterious stranger comes to town and reveals a long-buried secret; an old heartthrob reappears, shaking up Ave Maria's marriage and offering her a way out of her troubles; and an oppurtunistic coal company threatens to undermine the community; way of life and the mountain landscape Ave Maria has treasured since she was a girl. NO she has no choice but to reinvent her world, her life, and herself, come what may."

Ave Maria comes "full circle" in this fourth book in the Big Stone Gap series. I had not read the first three in a long time, but enjoyed the characters, flaws and all, so much that I ordered the first in the series to read again.

It was interesting to read about the continuing story of the life of Ava Maria but it was very predictable and
not as enjoyable as Book 1 in the series.

I've love all of the Adriana Trigiani books that I have read except this one. The plot was too light and nothing of real significance occurred. Maybe I had forgotten people's back stories, but it just didn't hang together, although though I hung in until the end.

I fell head over heels for Adriana's characters, setting, and overall writing style. This is the first of her novels that I have read, and had ordered 4 more before I was even done with it. It is set between autumn and winter, my favorite times of the year, and her characters are delightful and flawed. HIghly recommend that you try it!

This was a good book...although not as good as the other three in the series.
