If you've ever been to Northampton, or NoHo as we called it when I went to school at UMass, Amherst, this is an awesome book. Even if you haven't, it's still a great read!

I lived in Northampton for quite a few years and knew some of the "characters" in this book. It made for quite an interesting read. I enjoyed Kidder's view of Noho.

I enjoyed this book, but only because my mother-in-law grew up there and we pass through the towns of Northampton and Florence often. This book is more like a series of snapshots into the lives of several town residents - there's no one story, other than one part that centers around a police officer from childhood throughout his career on the force. I kept expecting something to "tie it all together", but this really isn't the type of book that has one definitive plot or story line. Interesting read if you have a connection to this or some other similar small town.

This is introversion and extroversion at its height. The comparison of people in just this one town is incredible, but even more so the fact that the reader walks away wanting to know what happened to each and every character. At points the story line is a little slow, but usually this is because Kidder is focusing on one character and the reader just wants to know what is happening with his or her favorite character. I would recommend this book to anyone that has ever visited, lived, or wants to live in a town in New England.
