I have been checking the games page every day to see when this was gonna start again and I joined a few other games while i was waiting. I know why so many people say they are addictive now. I would love to start tomorrow or whenever everyone else is ready.

I'm interested in joining. I read through the posts for last year's swap and I can say that I still don't get it...I've never done a game, though, so apparently I'm slow AND a little dense. ;-)

No worries.

I am really good with helping new players.

What don't you get, all of it, or just a few things?

Please feel free to Pm me if you would rather discuss this privately. Also it is much easier sometimes to learn as you go. We have a lot of great players that are usually happy to help in the game as well.

Debbie, Sherry and Rebecca hey guys I was in your place two Homeschool swaps ago.  I thought I would never figure it out, it sounded waaaay to complicated.  But it is really alot of fun.  Margaret (ladystyx) is great with new players, she really wants people to play and doesn't make you feel like any question is dumb!

I don't want to simplify this too much, but basically there is a starting box and Margaret sets up the playlist.  The first player decides what she would like to take out of the box, if she takes out two things she replaces it with two things.  The only exception to this is the freebie box, you can take items out of there but you don't have to put anything back in. And then at the end Margaret sends out the addresses to each through PM and we send everything out!  I'm telling you for a couple weeks after the swap it like Christmas!!

Ladystyx hope I didn't overstep bounds by trying to explain.  I just know what I felt like on my first one, so I thought I would throw in my two cents worth!! :-)

Please feel free... I love it when folks help. It has benn a life saver more than once when a new player, in game, has asked a Question and it has been answered by a returning player , or two, before I even see it. lol

O.K. it sounds awesome.  But help me make sure exactly what's going on...

Margaret will gather 10 homeschool items (or I guess that number can vary?) from around her house that she doesn't want and list them for all to see.  Then we take turns picking what we want and replacing an equal amount of items of similar value?  We do this all virtually until swapping is over at which time we all mail our packages out to the appropriate people and wait for Christmas to come?

That sounds like it could be tons of fun.  If I understand correctly, count me in!

The Number does vary. I try to start the box with at least 2 items person. I usually have 25-40 items in the box. 30 is about average. I try to have a variety of items that cover all areas of Homeschooling, books, curriculum, arts and crafts etc .

yep thats about it. Christmas is a good way to describe it. My Kids even make swap request lists when they know one is coming up of items that they would like me to look for and/or get if they come available. Lego items are always really high on the list, computer games, reading books, arts and crafts items etc. It is pretty fun.

I may ask for each person to contribute an item or 2 to the starting box.  am not sure. as I have had more folks request more religion accomidating/based homeschooling items be available and traded. as a secular Homeschooler I do not always have these available.

I also ask for a short about us and items looking for from each Player so I can try to find items that do appeal. I do try to make the box have as much variety as I can and I also try to include at least 1/some wishlisted items as well.

also we have the Freebie box which is a great way to rehome partially used items, items that may not meet PBS posting requirements or items that you just want to see go.

Please note that Shipping costs in this swap can be considerable as we do trade such a large quantity of items.*

* - thanks Johnnie  - LadyElaine for asking me to let people know of this. (I remembered this time. LOL)

I would love to take part in this if it doesn't start any sooner than April 15. My daughter gets married on the 5th of April, so there is a shortage of time and money for postage until then. And there are a several of us from here involved in the Christian Fiction swap, which has been very busy! For a few of us this had been our first swap.

How many credits would we need to invest into this game, so that we can start saving them? That is what kept me out last time. I also wasn't sure that I could follow the percentage guideline for secular materials then. But I have cleaned out my shelves a lot since then!

It sounds wonderful!

I would like to play, too. I've never done a virtual box swap, but it sounds like it would be great!

It is usually 3 credits to play this game.

I know this seems like a lot. But i have yet to have anyone feel that this is to much after playing the game. i try to do a credit a round.  though sometimes we play more than 3 rounds.

do I understand correctly that the credits are a deposit and are returned upon completion of the game?

They are returned upon successful completion of the game. assuming that all of the rules have been adhered to and there are no problems.

Thanks for the explanation! I *think* I'm getting it. :)

This is only my second year of h.s. and I have all kids ages 6 and under, so I don't know what all I can contribute but I'm sure I can round up some things. I've already collected quite the eclectic homeschool bookshelf!
