This is an excellent coverage of the final days of the Confederate government. The parts I enjoyed most were the descriptions of how the last of the Confederacy's treasury was divided among those who were entitled to it and those who weren't, plus the fascinating tales of their separate escapes to Cuba by John Breckinridge and Judah Benjamin.

If you enjoy this book, make sure you also read "A Government of Our Own," which relates the first few months of the Confederate government. Between the two of them, you will wonder how the Confederacy lasted as long as it did.
