He was raised in family who were involved in diplomatic services and attended boarding schools in England. He has finished his college education in the United States where he currently resides. He has written for The New York Times, The New Yorker, Salon, GQ, the New York Observer, and Interview, where he is also a contributing editor. His book The Ayatollah Begs to Differ was published by Doubleday in the Fall of 2008.
