I would get SO much more reading done if I stopped poking around here - in the forums, at the books posted.  Even rabbit trailing down the bookshelves of the posters in the forums.

Which is more fun...reading, or planning what I'm going to read next?

I'm not sure........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Heh.  I feel yer pain, Melanie, I feel yer pain!! :-)

Reading is more fun but we wouldn't do it if we didn't spend hours perusing bookstores, libraries and PBS searching for the next victim.  I mean book.  It's a viscious circle, I tell ya!

I know the feeling.  I should be reading a library book that I need to finish.  I always tell myself "I'll just read a few posts"...and the next thing I know an hour has gone by :)

I think there is such a thing as "PBS time" as opposed to "real time."  PBS time seems to go so much faster..............

I agree!  PBS time goes much quicker!

I made this realization and yet here I am again.

And Look, Melani, we are all here to see you here!  I'm telling you, this place just sucks you in!  But, like I say, it ain't the street corner and drugs!

But, they are...drugs, I mean.  Just legal, less  expensive and are good for you!!  Whenever I am totally down, stressed out  and so on...the kind of day when  everyone and everything just sets you on edge...the first thing I do is grab a book and, a couple of hours later, everything has smoothed out.  I've gotten out of my lousy world and into another one and, even if everyone is getting murdered (I love mysteries), it's still a total escape.  Who needs tranquilizers or anti-depressants when you  have books?!?!

Amen, Marla! Books are definitely my drug of choice--the only downfall to them over some other drug is that boxes of books are darned heavy when you move. LOL

And I do hear ya, Melani...I have bookshelves full of TBR books, lists of what I plan to read next, several book challenges to complete and here I sit...monkeying around at PBS. LOL My excuse is that I don't like to sit down with a book til I've had my 2 morning cups of coffee. I don't know what my excuse is for when I'm here in the evening. Anyone got a good one I can borrow? :-D

My problem is that I might be moving to another state later this year-and I am trying to decide what books to read now and swap and which ones to pack  and take with me.  I spend WAY too much time on this site....and keep ordering more books!!!  AHHHHH!!!!  I need to have less not more!!!!  (Once I hear back from Human Resources, I will know for sure.  In the meantime I find myself avoiding the whole issue by reading library books.  I am sure there is some psychological reason for that...)

Well LeeAnne, if I had to write a math paper, I'd be doing anything but that...scrubbing toilets, vacuuming, writing my check to the IRS (grits teeth), so hey...hanging out here is very pleasant by comparison.

Cheryl (I hate math, so I refer to myself as a mathiest. LOL)

Heh.  I hate math so I refer to myself as an English major.

I'm back in school getting an elementary education teaching license so I have to take math.  Bleh.  It has been nearly 25 years since my last math class so I'm pretty rusty.  I'm looking at A's thought so I guess I'm not that rusty.  Besides, these classes are really arithmetic and pedagogy and not algebra.  I'd rather remove my own spleen with a grapefruit spoon than take algebra. **shudder**

Yeah...all that math is the reason I became a nurse instead of a pharmacist, I think....I only needed two basic chemistry classes for that. LOL My worst grades in college were in Chemistry where there is so much math involved. I loved the natural sciences like biology, anatomy, physiology--even though English has always been my first love.

Anyone who wants to become an elementary teacher has my undying respect. It's something I could never do! Kudos to ya! (Now go do your math paper.....LOL)

Deborah - Good luck with the move and what to do about the books. I'm in the same boat. We are moving in 2 weeks and I managed to trade off a bunch of books but my husband can't believe how many I'm still taking with me! Since we are downsizing, I'm not sure where I'm going to put them when we get there. One thing that seems to have worked for me is that I boxed up what I am taking and have just refused to order more - can't imagine boxing up more books at this point. So the closer you get, the easier it will be not to order (I think).
