A really well written book. There are several stories happening at once throughout the book which eventually tie together. The description of life and work on the backside are pretty accurate. The horses are memorable for various reasons. I believe most horse folk would enjoy this book.

The human characters are well developed, with a nice mixture of good, bad and many in between. Even the bad ones have a few redeeming qualities.

It's kept me up after 1:00 AM a couple times!!

This is easily one of the best books that I have ever read. Smiley, is so accurate and detailed. At times, you see the world through the eyes of a horse. Heartwarming and realistic. Something for everyone. I learned so much about the background of horse racing. A+
