I had read this book looking for decorating ideas and I was disappointed. Most of the pictures are extremely cluttered and from a very large home. One idea was to put an armchair in the kitchen so guests could chat with you in comfort while you cook - most people I know don't have that kind of room in their kitchen. The recipe for hot chocolate was to melt a chocolate bar and add a pint of milk - not a very inspiring idea.

I love this book. It's not a decorating book - it's more like a "how to make your home a cozy, fun place to be" sort of book with lots of photos, and that's exactly what I enjoy about it. Granted, if clutter makes you want to scream and bite your nails, you might not like some of the images because they are of lived in, homey sorts of places. This book filled a niche, because there aren't too many others like it. I have four kids and we live a home-centered life - I'm not worried about recreating a magazine-ready showplace, but somewhere we can kick back, be creative, and enjoy one another.
