Hi all,

I am having A BALL with this website. My wishlist is growing, and I was wondering if I must add each edition of a book to the wish list as an individual item? For example, if a book has 2 paperback editions with 2 different ISBNs, do I have to add both to the wish list or will PBS search by book title?

You don't have to add all the books.  If you really want the book and don't care about the ISBN (some people want specific copies of books), then what you can do (and I do this) is find every ISBN for that book, post them all and hope that one will come up.  Then when I get a copy, I go into my wish list and delete all the other copies.  Pat

Yes, you'd have to add both ISBNs to your Wish List if you just want a copy of the book and dodn't care which ISBN you receive.  Books are posted into the system according to the ISBN so, if you don't have the correct ISBN on your WL, you wouldn't be offered the book.

Welcome! Isn't it fun here? My pile of books to be read has grown quickly since I joined.

You should add all ISBNs of a book to your waitlist if you don't care about the edition. You'll probably get quicker results that way. I wish there were some option to just wishlist the title, regardless of ISBN, but there isn't a way to do that.

Good luck! I hope the books you're wishing for come up soon!

You should add all ISBNs to maximize you chances.  However, if a version that has no wishlist comes up people get an email saying that there is a version available and would you like it?  You have to get there first though so it's not the most reliable method.

I used to add every edition of each book to my WL back in the day when we had an unlimited WL, but with the cap at 200, there's no way I can do that now. I generally choose a paperback version of a book to WL unless I want it fr my keeper shelf, then I HC it. Often, when a book is a new release, I start out with the HC version on the WL as that's all that's available at the time, but as soon as the paperback's ISBN is available, I switch over to that version. The exception being the few books I *really* want and that aren't all that popular, then I generally will leave 2 versions wishlisted.

Alejandrina - like others have said, you have to add each ISBN you want to be on the wishlist for. The good news is, when you finally get one, and it gets delivered, PBS's software is smart enough to notice you have the same title on your wishlist with other ISBN's, and ask if you want to remove them all from your wishlist.

I just wanted to point out that if you are limited in WL space-don't WL those 5 digit ISBN books.  Those are supposed to be one time only PBS generated ISBNs and will most likely not be posted again. Now it's possible that the person who received that book when it was posted under that ISBN may repost it that way but not likely.  I know when I repost books I don't go into my transaction archive to look for it-I just post it by the ISBN.  It may happen but you'll waste a lot of space on long shots if you load up with those.  Now if a book is only in the system with the 5 digit ISBN, then add 1 and maybe you'll get an email if a different version gets posted. Although I don't know if it works for the PBS ISBN.

Welcome Alejandra! I'm glad you're here and I'm sure you'll become addicted to PBS as the rest of us are. Check out all the features, there's so much to do here!

I agree with Pat on how I post my own WL books, although like Mary says it does take up a lot of space. However, if I really want a book that's what I'll do. Just be sure that when you finally do get the book to go back into your WL and remove the others. I check my WL about once a week and "clean it out" just to be sure.

Happy Reading! Enjoy your time here!

Ah well, more work for me. Maybe there is a way to ask for a WL by book title?

You can't put a WL book on your WL by title but you can type it into the system and see what comes up.

The feature that asks if you want other versions of a book taken off of your wishlist is not working at all for me--the last 6 or so wishlist books I've gotten that had other versions on my WL did not trigger a message about alternate versions, I had to remember to go in and take off the other versions myself.  Is anyone else still receiving those messages?

I haven't seen one in a while Diane, but I don't know that I've had any WL books with multiple versions offered to me either--can't think of one.

It is nice when one comes through--there are some books I'm really hoping for because then I'll have 4 spots open up!
