I was wondering, when someone wants to get a book off of me. How can I contact them BEFORE I accept it???? Like my one book doesn't have a dustjacket. I know that they do not need them if they are hardcover but I would like to check with the person first.... Can anyone help me??

Thanks!

You can accept the offer, then immediately there is a button to PM them.  You can do that and let them know about your book and give them the chance to accept or refuse.

Just make sure if they decide not to order it, that the correct person cancels it.  If your copy is the only one available then you should cancel the order.  If there are multiple copies then they should cancel it.  This way each of you would not lose your places in FIFO.

Trisha, if the person wants a dust jacket, s/he should have a requestor condition stating so. The PBS rules clearly state that DJ are not required. So just accept and send the book. Don't wait around PM'ing people about things that fall within guidelines. (What if the person requested the book and then went out of town?) It will make life a lot easier for you in the long haul.

Plus, if we all start PM'ing a confirmation for all PBS-guideline-quality books, everyone will start expecting a PM every time they place an order. Just follow the guidelines and let it go. :)

I agree with Jane, I think it's nice to want to be nice, but you set a precident for people who then think everybody is supposed to PM about little things and it just doesn't happen. So then they get upset with the next sender. So, just feel comfortable in sending the book. If they complain about no DJ, you simply remind them that RCs are for that purpose.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I just wanted to say - Trisha!  I'm so impressed that you joined only yesterday and you've taken the time to read the posting guidelines and other help center documents. That's not something a lot of people do when they are new (I think some are easily overwhelmed or maybe just don't care)...so, hey, way to go!  You're going to be a great PBS'er, I can tell.

Trisha...I've seen people that have been members for a couple years come to the forums to ask questions...my theory is the only stupid question is the one you don't know the answer too and don't ask!

I gotta agree with this statement -- way to be a good PBS citizen, Trisha.  I've added you to my buddy list :-)  Welcome aboard!

Cheers,

Catt

I have to go with Sherry and Jane on this one.  If a request comes in for with a dust jacket requirement, decline the request. If there's no dj requirement, the go ahead and send it out.  Otherwise you have to deal with what to do if this person doesn't respond.  Then you're stuck waiting, wondering do I send the book out or not.  If you cancel then you lose your place in the FIFO line. If they cancel and reorder the book, it'll go to you again.  If you decline for conditions, it's supposed to keep that order from coming to you again. But if one of you just cancels, it can still come to you again.  If a dust jacket is important to someone then they'll have it as a condition.
