I thought that I had read in previous discussions that if you wanted to see how many copies of a book were in the system that you could add the book to your Reminder list.  I have added a few books, and went to check, and I don't see anything.  Am I just missing it?

Thanks in advance!!

Bethany,

Beneath the ISBN of the book on your Reminder List it will say "Copies Available."

ETA: you need to be viewing your reminder list to see this.

Can you take a look at this one?  Night, ISBN 9780374500016.  I just added it to my reminder list.  It will allow me to order the book from a member, but I cannot tell of there are multiple copies in the system or not.

Also, if your problem is that the books aren't appearing in your reminder list, know that the 'default' sorting for the reminder list is all books that have copies in the system are sorted alphabetically, and below that, all books with zero copies are listed alphabetically.

DUH!!!  Thank you all - I was looking for the info AFTER I clicked into the book's information, not right there on my reminder list.  I see it now.  Guess it's a good thing it's Friday, I must've used up all my brain power for the week!

Relative newbie here, how do you post a book to your reminder list in order to see how many copies there are?  When I go into reminder list, it says that I have no copies there.  Thanks for your help.

Hi Lynn:  Welcome to PBS - From the book description page there are several options to the right. Click on the reminder button.   To navigate to the book description page - if it is on your bookshelf, click on the title and this will bring up the book description page or if you search for a book when it appears in the right column there will be a reminder button to the far right.

You can also just do a title search and hit Reminder/RL from the list of books that comes up.

THey are supposed to be working on a way to display the # posted on all listings.

Note that if a book is on your Wish List, then DON"T do this.  It will move the book from your place in line to your reminder list.  Putting you at the back of the line.  The book page will tell you how many folks are on the WL.

My question now is for you folks that have been members for a long time. If I check and some of my books have 200 or more copies should I go ahead and get rid of the books another way, (donate to the local library for FOL sale) or should I hold on to them.  How long should I expect a copy that has 200 or more copies to leave my house?  What criteria do most of you use regarding this issue?  Thanks, Lynn

Hi Lynn:  I have found that some of my books that had 200+ copies have gone off my shelf quickly.  I was planning on clearing out some off my shelf, but figured I would do this when I had some time.  A couple of days later, one of those books was requested.    Some members will order from your shelf directly or you will find that if it is FIFO the member will browse your bookshelf for additional books.   So for now, I am leave them on my bookshelf and will probably review what I have in November....maybe run a deal on those books.

Try running a deal on those books.  If they a cluttering your house and bookshelf you may want to donate them or bring them to a used book store (UBS).  I receive credit for each book I bring to my UBS and when I purchase a book I can use part of that credit towards the cost of my purchase. Good Luck.
