I am beginning my 2nd year using Tapestry of Grace (TOG).  This site was recommended to find many of the recommended history & literture books used in associated with TOG.  I have been searching and haven't found any books so far and wondered if I am looking for them incorrectly or if they are just not on this site.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, Linda. I really don't have much advise for you except to share my similar experience with A Child's Geography, which has a number of go-along books used in the lessons. A few of the books I needed were out of print, so buying them was out of the question. I am a member of PBS and Bookmooch, so I listed the books I needed on both sites. A year and a half later, I have many of the books I need. Patience was definitely a virtue but it sounds like you need some of the books ASAP.

Have you tried listing on the "Wanted to Buy" sections on homeschool sites like VegSource, HomeschoolClassifieds, and HomeschoolChrisitian.com?

Best wishes and happy homeschooling!

Patrice

Linda--even if a book is not currently posted, definitely put it (and all versions of it--hardback, etc.) on your wish list.  I'm always surprised at what wish-listed books I wind up receiving on this site.

Linda - they are probably on the site, just not available.  You can have up to 200 books on your wish list, so I'd get out the TOG lists and just start adding away.

We're starting Yr 1 Rhetoric soon and I have been able to get a few books here.  As my WL gets under 200, I'll start adding on the Yr 2 books and hope that within 12 months many of them will be posted.

Also, use the forums here to ask for specific books.  People may have them but not listed them yet and you may jog their memory of a book on their home shelf.  This happens a lot with me, since we have 1500+ books in our home library.

As I come across TOG books, I've been tagging them.  This really helps, especially if the tag has the TOG yr, level, and perhaps even unit.

I'll add you to my friend list as another TOG user.

PS - I just looked and you haven't posted 10 books yet.  You may not be seeing book availability untiil you're a "full" member.  You most likely can't add books to your wish list, either.

Oh, and the reminder list can have an indefinite number of books on it.  I keep mine ready for when I have a lot of credits (sort by availability), or books I'm waiting to put on my Wish List.

Sorry, I have "chemo brain" and shouldn't be so quick to push "submit"!

How are you searching for the books?  Are you going by title/author, ISBN, or "Tapestry of Grace/TOG"?  If it's the last one, you're only going to pull up books that people have tagged as TOG.  I don't remember if the TOG resource book lists (in Excel) have an ISBN, but I find that's the quickest way to find a book, especially a specific one.

Remember, too, that even if TOG's BookShelf Central or Lampstand Press has a certain version of a book listed, you could most likely use an older version and it would work just fine.  As another member said, put all the binding options on your wish list also.

Even if you're the 40th person in the queue line on your WL, don't give up hope!  Some books get posted very often, and others do not, but people ahead of you in line may not accept the book when it's posted.

Thank you for your responses.  You are right J.C. I haven't had time to add my books yet.  I was hoping to see how books were added and what type of books were good fit to the site.   I will work on adding my books and finding the isbn's for the books I will be looking for over the next year.  I am going to have to start planning :-).

I wasn't sure if there was a way to list and search for books used by TOG - it sounds like the tags will work for this.

You can go to bookself off the TOG website and select the year, the level and subject and it will list books you need and how many week they are used.  Or you should be able to find it on your Loom.  We will be starting Yr 2 soon and have been collecting LG/UG books this way.  If you type the title and author, it really works as well.

Here's the link on the TOG site to get the Excel resource lists.  I used them to find my books here (with the advanced search) to put on my wish list.

I'm in the process of making TOG book lists here.  So far I only have Year 1 Rhetoric done.  You can access it from my profile.
