I just tried to edit some data on a book.  I received the wrong type of cover than what was listed.  The PBS system has the wrong cover type for the book, but when I try to use the edit book data feature, I cannot change the cover type.

Do I send a note to someone in particular, or post in in a certain forum?

This caused the member who sent it to me to have a "wrong book sent" on their record.  They didn't think to check the cover type w/ the entry (they're new).

TIA!

JC

that is one think you can't change.  sometimes books use the same ISBN for multiple copies...doesn't make sense but that is the way it is.

Yikes - so people may get the incorrect cover they wanted ALL the time!!  That is, unless someone doesn't double-check that before sending...or when they post.  I knew the cover photo can be different, but I didn't know the cover type would be the same on some ISBN's.

You know what REALLY STINKS with this???  The book that was listed/sent incorrectly was auto-ordered for me off my wish list.  I was 1st in the queue.  Now I have to go back in the queue at the BACK of the line.  If we receive a WL'ed book w/ a problem, I think we should get our place back in line.

JC -- if you use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page and explain the problem, they will put you back to #1 on the wish list. It's not your fault the book type was wrong.

It is the sender's fault though. When she posted the book, she was supposed to check and make sure the title, author, book type and ISBN matched the database listing. It's in big red letters, so if she ignored the message and posted the book anyway, she was not following the rules. If the listing didn't match the book, she should have used the "Post Book Without an ISBN" feature.

JC...there was a discussion on that...the concensus is that if you get a damaged book or a wrong type of book you should contact R&R using the Contact Us feature and they can put you back at the front of the line and the person that sent you the book that was the wrong format should refund you your credit.

Yes, people have to be careful posting books to make sure they are posting the right title, format, isbn and author...if the format is different even though the ISBN matches then they have to post it as a book with no-ISBN...

Thanks everyone!  I didn't want to bug R&R if there wasn't a good reason.  That seems my only recourse for the queue.  I did get my credit back right away.  I was just so sad when I had to go to the back of the line.  I'd had that on my WL for a year (I just passed my 1st PBS anniversary!)

Like someone else said: sometimes book are issued in more than one format with the same ISBN.  It's the posters responsibility to make sure it matches-not PBS.  It brings up the warning very clearly when you post a book Make Sure the Binding Matches.  If someone chooses to ignore that then they can't be surprised if someone asks for their credit back.  If your book doesn't match the binding PBS has it's very simple to post it w/o an ISBN.

Some books have different covers but the same isbn, I have 2 copies of a book, same isbn, publisher, etc. but they have totally different covers.

I tagged it w/ one someone else used:

Softcover and Hardcover same ISBN

Perhaps now it will stick out when someone has it on their shelf.

Thanks again!

some people may think that tag is something personal for someone else.

I think I would rather the tag be "only (insert binding type) can be posted with this ISBN". With that type of tag you used, it looks like you can post either into the system.

They should put you at the head of the WL since you didn't get the book you ordered.

Tagging it really isn't going to help...and some might not realize that when you are putting softcover you are actually meaning paperback because "softcover" is not actually paperback...it is not actually a hardcover but, not a paperback either...sort of a plastic type cover.

Besides which, J C, that tag makes a person think that they CAN post either to that ISBN and get their credit, which you've just proven they won't. You are basically misleading someone else to make the same mistake the sender of your book made.

Sorry about using a tag that would mislead.  I typically only tag with my homeschool curriculum's grade levels and courses.  When I went to tag the said book, that tag already popped up, so I thought that's why someone tagged it that way.

I can change it to "make sure your cover type matches the system database" or something like that - Ideas?

Something like that would be an ok tag. Since it is a book that has an issue with the binding, noting it in the tag is ok. Something like, "Check that your binding for this ISBN matches the listing"  I wouldn't use the words "cover type" because people would then think you meant the cover art :)  However you word it, be sure to use the word binding, since that's what PBS calls it.
