Is there any way to find the ISBNs for all versions of a book, without for example clicking on each one in Amazon?  One of my WL books came up with 218 hits when I put in the title in Amazon.  Something like, for a given title, a list of all the versions that are out there, would be so helpful for those of us who don't really care, for the most part, what edition we get.

I find it easier to search here, by Author. Search for the book by title and click on the Author's name, the new page that opens will be a list of all the books by that Author. The ones at the top in Green are posted, the ones below in Red are not. You can click on each listing for that title and add it to your WL and then use the back button on your browser to return to the list and click on the next one.

And when it works, there is a link down low on the book page with the other versions in red or green.  But the system does get confused by different spellings of the name.  Like if there is a middle name or not.

I just type in the book title and hit all books then add the ones I want to my WL.  If you're having trouble then try some various spellins of the author's name because sometimes they are wrong here.  Then be kind and submit edits to correct the name spelling.

What do I do if I have a book that's on the wishlist for a bunch of people but is just a different ISBN?

It's funny...I got this book here and when I finished I knew it was on the wishlist for others so I listed it again (instead of taking it off my TBR list -I forgot) and funny thing....I had it listed right next to the one that was on the wishlist but it didn't come up as being "wished for".  LOL

I've actually noticed other books like that.  I have a different version but not the ISBN that everyone is looking for.  I realize they may not want it but how can I offer it?  Or can I?

Dee

You can't contact people directly because you've no way of knowing WHO has it WL'd....but you can post in the Book Bazaar. Look for the thread titled "wishlist books with different ISBNS" and post them there.

Sometimes people don't mind having alternate versions, they just don't know there's available copies in the system, particularly if they were foreign versions that the poster had to enter as a book without an ISBN 'cause PBS's database didn't recognize it, or older versions of a book without an ISBN. I often will go through my wishlist and click on the author's name and have found many alternate versions listed that way, especially those listed without an ISBN by hand.

Other times of course, the person ONLY wants the version wishlisted--it might be audio or large print because their sight is impaired or they may only want the hardcover for their Keeper shelf, or ONLY want the paperback version because they only want to trade paperbacks which are cheaper to mail. Or one of any number of other reasons!

Edited for stupid mistakes...more coffee needed! lol

Tag the WL version with the ISBN you have "Same title,Diff ISBN available" or something similar with the right ISBN you have.

That's a great use of the Tag feature!

I do wish PBS had an implementation of a feature that BookMooch has - a "Related Editions" link - that'd be nice!
