Before I post a book here, I would like to be able to check how many are already in the system.  If there are already 100 of a book in the system, I don't want to waste my time posting it.  I'll just sell it to my used books store.

Also, does this site take suggestions for improvement anywhere?  I would like to see them list the top 5 of a book rather than just the first one when I want to order a book.  I like to buy other books from members to make shipping less expensive, but when you only get the first book in the queue, often times they don't have any other books I would like to order.  If they were to list the top five on the list, chances would be better that I would find someone who reads the same kind of books I do and has something other on their shelf I want to buy.

Put the book on your reminder list and it will tell you how many copies are available.

OK, I give, how do you add a book to your reminder list?  I have three there and don't remember putting them there.  They appear to be three I have ordered.

When you are on the book page. there is either a wish list (WL) button or an order this book button , as well as a reminder list (RL) button.  There is also pull down for more options button, which is where the TBR list (to be read) is located.

You can post books from this page.  But I recommend posting by the ISBN number as there might be more than one version available.  Or double checking the number when you post.

Your second suggestion (about the "top 5") seems to be that you want to have the option of choosing who you get your book from, rather than using the FIFO system.

That would seriously change the fundamental way PBS works. As it stands, books get ordered in the order they are posted (First In, First Out). The only way around this is to order directly from someone's shelf.

You can do this to some extent by using the BoxOfBooks feature - (I think without even signing up for it).
Go to the BOB page and search for a book you want to request and you should get a list of members
(but just those signed up for BOB) who have the book.  You can then check the shelves of those members for other books you are interested in.

What I do sometimes if I'm ordering multiples from a series: I open 2 browser windows, I order 1 book on one window and another on the other window then hit the Order More button on both then finish the one that has both books.

Or you can post in the book bazaar for what you are looking for or search boxer shelves.

On the survey they did recently (not everyone got one) they asked some questions related to this. So I think they might be working on a way to do something similar.  So that if you are looking for multiple books it can hook you up with someone who has more than one.  I imagine the programming involved would not be easy and I wouldn't expect to see it any time soon.  PBS was set up on a FIFO basis.

If you have a specifc genre you are looking for, go to that particular genre forum. Some of them (Love and Romance for one) have threads where you can ask if certain books (multiples of any sort) are on their shelves. In the Love and Romance forum, the thread is called "Is this on your bookshelf" I've used it when I want to search a number of books by a certain author or a series, and it works very nicely.
