I have had this book on my wish list for weeks.  I finally get to #1, request the book, then my request gets turned down for my RC (only regular paperback size).  The member responded that the book was a hardcover with large print.  So why does the Book Type say: Paperback?

First Family :: David Baldacci
ISBN-13: 9781607518051 - ISBN-10: 1607518058 - Book Type: Paperback

I just received an email from PBS saying they changed the listing to Large Print Hardcover.  I looked at my wishlist and it had been changed, so I deleted it.

Because they posted the book wrong.  Either the ISBN was reused or they looked at the wrong version when they posted.  You might want to report that to PBS so they can send a warning to this person. Beyond that there's not much you can do about it.

A similar situation happend to me, and I was told that if the transaction isn't cancelled by the sender (although, it looks like it has been since the RC didn't go through) and you don't get your #1 place in line back waiting for the next available copy, the thing that may help you is to contact PBS and explain the situation so they can put you back in first.

Hope this works out!   I know the feeling!

I think I should tell you that there aren't any paperback versions of 'First Family' anywhere at the moment. I noticed that the pub. date says 2009, so it doesn't show when it will be released. Hopefully, PBS can find out the release date and fix it on that page. The only way you would get this book now is if you want the hardcover version. You do need to contact PBS.

Connie,

I started out at #19 on the wishlist, with wishes being granted, until I got to #1.  Didn't anybody realize they were ordering a book that said paperback, but were receiving a hardcover?  How has it gone through 18 people without anyone realizing they were receiving the wrong version of the book?  If I did not have the RC, I would have ordered the paperback version, and received a hardcover.  Weird, huh??   But, I did contact PBS.

It's possible that other people had multiple versions of the book on their Wishlist, and when they got one of the others, they simply removed the "paperback" from their Wishlist, thus enabling you to move up. The book itself may not have gone through 18 people.

It could be that a lot of those people are like me, we're not "keepers" we're "read it and pass it along" people so we don't care which version it is as long as there are words on a page and it's repostable.  So in other words, they might not have noticed that the book didn't match the listing.  I probably wouldn't have.

There's nothing that PBS can do about this, because this is not a system problem. The book you have wish listed has not yet been released yet. Another member improperly posted her book using the wrong listing. She's the one who made the mistake, not the PBS system.

PBS doesn't create their own database. They use a generally available database that anyone can buy. If you think the publication date (or the author's name, or the description, etc) in the database is incorrect, then to get it fixed, you research this yourself, find the correct data, and enter it on the Edit Book Data screen. It gets sent to the data editing volunteers who approve it and update the database.

The exception to this is book type. If you think the book type on the listing is incorrect, then you do have to contact the team using the Contact Us link at the bottom of the screen. But you also have to supply some evidence from multiple other websites that you're right and that they should change the listing.

My comment about contacting PBS was not to get them to change the listing-but to get them to contact the person trying to post the wrong version of the book to that WL line.  The sender is obviously posting a book wrong if they are posting a hardcover to a paperback listing.

The question is why is there even a paperback in the system. After looking at all the author's websites, there is no mention of a paperback version of this book in the works. The date on the page is 2009, which is totally incorrect. Being in the system, this paperback gives members the idea that it exists or is in the works. This at the moment is not true. The only versions of this books so far are Hardcover, audio, e-book, and Large print. Shouldn't this paperback page be deleted by PBS?

If you can prove to PBS that the book never existed in that binding then you might be able to get them to change it-but not if there's a long WL for it.  What binding does the publisher show for that ISBN?

The book on the op's post still does not exist. I finally found the same book you did. They have different publishers and different isbn's than mentioned on the PBS page. They are not the same books.

Right but the sender said theirs was a Hardcover large print not a paperback large print. So the sender is still posting teh book wrong.

This is the other wish list version of the same book.  On this one, I am #68 of #76.  I am assuming that this is the release of November, because I have not moved at all for this one.

It does sound like the poster made the mistake, but I have noticed that most every large print book I have posted (all have been hardcovers) come up as paperbacks in the system when I pull the isbn on them.  So if it is a large print, I know I'm probably going to have to post w/o isbn.

I don't know if this is a common industry isbn thing or if it is because all of these were former library books, but 3 out of 4 large print books I've posted here have been that way.

PBS changed the listing to Large Print Hardcover.
