I ordered a book directly from someone's bookshelf in order to do a 2 for 1 special.  Now it has been accepted by someone else and i just placed the order yesterday.

I pm'd this person and hopefully they will cancel because while I'd like the book, not sure I want to spend a credit on it since I believed I was getting it as a 2 for 1 deal.  If not, I guess that is the way it is and nothing I can do about it.

this is just very strange

You probably clicked on the book description and ordered it from there - the request then went to the FIFO.  You have to order it from the shelf itself, and not from the description.

I'm 99.9% sure I did not order it by the title.  there is always that chance but I'm pretty sure I ordered it directly from her shelf.  Had I known what had happened I would have cancelled because it was just accepted.   I swear I even went to my pending portion before it was accepted and clicked on PM and swear it pulled it up the original person's name that I was intending to order from

this happened to me once before. because i have a condition on my requests and the 2 for 1 deal book didn't meet that condition. so automatically my request went to someone else.

I know it wasn't because of conditions....I really think I did what L.G. said, I was in the bookshelf but clicked on the title and then ordered from there vs from the bookshelf.  I know it wasn't because of a condition.

lesson learned and I'll be more careful from now on!

Yep, I did the same thing once, Leslie.  I was trying to help out a newbie by ordering a book I probably would not otherwise have ordered, but I accidentally ordered from the book description rather than the person's shelf.  Live and learn!  ;->

I just PM'd the person and I found out that I did it correctly.  However, because I have a current non-smoking environment condition she rejected it and it bounced to the next person.  I really wish she would have said something so I could have cancelled it once it bounced to the next person but she didn't.

still a lesson learned because next time I'll as the person offering the deal if they are smokers and just won't do a deal with them.  This way I don't lose a credit.

ETA - would love to see a feature where we can block certain members.  the member I bounced too for the book called me rude and said I needed help when I tried to see if they would cancel the order because of the mixup.  trust me, I will not be doing anything with that person!

Sheesh Leslie - that's too bad.

What I really wish is that we could designate our accounts smoking or non-smoking and only get  offered books from the non-smokers if we wish.  Usually if I get turned down, it's because of my smoker's clause.

that would be a great feature....smoking household or non smoking household, it would have made this transaction a lot easier!  plus that is probably the main concern most people have due to allergies.

and of course this same person who sent the book due that is calling me rude doesn't seem to get that she wasn't ever going to get the order from me had the person that was doing the 2 for 1 told me that she smokes either before rejecting it or right afterwards.  I even tried to explain it nicely but they must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.  they told me to stop messaging them or they were going to report me.  whatever!  it is definitely a person I won't forget when ordering books.  I'll check who it is from and cancel the order should this members name pop up ever again.  shame, I really like PBS and one bad member can really turn people off.

You know that happened to me once.  I have a no-smoking condition because most books I order are for my son and he has a hypersensitive nose and allergies.  So I did a 2 for 1 on some books for my niece and the gal saw my conditions and rejected even after I PM'd her and posted on her thread.  Of course she did the right thing and I should have PM'd her to tell her to ignore my conditions.  Fortunately, I saw that it had bounced to the next person and I was able to cancel it right away, PM the 2 for 1 gal and explain myself.  I re-ordered again, directly from her shelf, got the deal and everything worked out, but it was a good lesson for me.  If I'm ordering for someone else now I always PM the person to tell them to ignore my conditions.

good point Julie!

Is there a way to tell when it has bounced to the next person?  Other than hitting the PM button?   Perhaps that needs to be something that happens, when the first person doesn't reply you get a notice or something that it is someone different.  granted most of the time you just want the book, but if it is an order directly from a bookshelf usually it is for a reason (like a 2 for 1)

I know the original person did the right thing by rejecting because of the conditions...I just wish she would have let me know she did that!  oh well, lesson learned
