This is new for me. I have 2 books that should have been mailed already. One label is printed, they said they'd mail and PBS gives us an extra couple from the date we choose but what happens if the books aren't mailed? At what point can I go back to my WL place? So let' say someone says they'll mail on the 1st. Add 2 days to that and then if the book isn't marked mailed by what date does PBS return you to your place in line?

My other book was supposed to be mailed already , it has a will mail by date which passed but the label was never printed.

If these 2 folks changed their minds, that's ok but I'd like to go back in line.

I hope I explained myself right. Thanks !

Michelle, I don't remember how long senders have before the swap "times out" but if it does so, you go back to the same place in line you were when you were offered the book.

So if a friend offers you a book, even though you're 64 of 325, and then doesn't get it mailed, you go back to being 64. If you are offered a FIFO book, and were #1, then you return to being #1.

Hope this helps.

Robin

But they've responded: 1 by printing and giving a mailing date and the other said she'd mail by a certain date. I thought time outs were for non response?

Here are the general deadlines. The final deadline should be listed on the order details. Orders "roll over" in the middle of the night. If the time isn't the middle of the night, then it was manually done.

Swapping Deadlines

Here is a list of deadlines associated with the PBS swapping process:

  • A sender has 5 days* to respond to a request.
    • After accepting a request by clicking "I can mail in the next 2 days", a sender has 5 days to mark the book mailed. The deadline is at the end of the fifth day.

    • After accepting a request by clicking "I can mail later" and choosing an alternate mailing date, a sender has 2 days beyond the alternate mailing date to mark the book mailed. The deadline is at the end of the second day.
  • A requestor has 48 hours to respond to an offer of a book from her Wish List.
  • A book has 26 days from the "mailed" date to get to its destination within the contiguous US before it is declared "lost in the mail" at PBS.
  • A book sent from or to outside the contiguous US (AK, HI, GU, VI, PR, APO/FPO/DPO, etc)  has 35 days from the "mailed' date to get to its destination.

*The PBS system works on calendar --not business-- days. Members need to keep postal holidays and their own schedules in mind when accepting a request and choosing the mail-by date.

Yes, if not marked 'mailed' the transaction will time out and roll over to the next member offering the book (or you will be returned to your previous location on the wishlist).

Yepp, I'm back in the WL line. I'm happy that we don't lose our place, I first thought we'd go the end of the line.
