ETA: Got the book yesterday so it was 16 days after ordering and only 8 days after it shipped! And I was (pleasantly) shocked... it was hardcover for $2.09 plus one credit!

I ordered a PBS market book on the 4th and it shipped on the 8th. It left details on the tracking says it left Atlanta on July 9 but it hasn't arrive anywhere, etc. since then.. this is all with the FedEx Smart Post tracking.

However, the PBS market email I got said books are shipped by the post office.

I thought I read somewhere that the book was due to be delivered on the 15th yesterday but it didn't arrive and I've got back over everything and can't figure out where I got that date (wishful thinking? I don't know)

How long does it usually take to get a PBS market book and how are they usually delivered, fedex or USPS?

Here's what it says in the Q&A regarding the PBS Market:

Q - How are these shipped?  When will I get them?

A - They are sent US Postal Service Media mail, but our testing demonstrated pretty quick transit times.  We will be gathering the USPS scan data from the shipments, and at some point in the future this data should enable us to provide an estimate of transit time to customers at the time of purchase.

It really varied during the beta testing. Some people got their books in a matter of days, I think mine took close to 3 weeks.

There is an estimated date for delivery on the requests and I think that is what you saw. If you go to your My Account tab and into Receipts (last item in the yellow submenu) you will be able to open the receipt for your request. That is where the estimated delivery will be listed I believe. You will also find your tracking number there to check on the USPS site for any scans enroute.

FedEx Smart Post works in conjunction with the usps. So while the package starts out via FedEx, the final delivery will be by your usps mail carrier.  I've ordered a number of books from Borders and they used this service. Mail times tend to vary a good bit from really fast to fairly slow.

Thank you for the help. I am so upset it really is FedEx smart post. I've had a truly terrible experience with that before (not for a PBS purchase but other) and am so discouraged to hear I might have another one. Last time either FedEx just let my package sit in their facility for a few weeks or the post office just never picked it up (they both blamed each other). At least when its Media Mail it gets here without calling around harrassing people.

Got an update yesterday on the FedEx tracking. It's  now in West Va., nowhere near where I live and the new expected delivery date according to FedEx is July 22. There is no expected delivery date in my transaction archive/receipts that I could find. It must have been a fedex expected deliver date I saw.

Does PBS market offer an upgrade to priority mail?

No. It's still Media Mail with the associated delivery times, even if it's being carried by FedEx part of the way. If you haven't got it within 26 days of ordering, then you should contact PBS.

The package probably went to West Va because it would need to go through a FedEx facility. I know local facilities have a lot to do with handling and maybe you have a crappy one, but I have received tons of packages sent FedEx Smart Post and have never had a problem. Hopefully you had a one time bad occurance and this will go fine.

BTW: An order from the Market won't ever show up in your Transaction Archive, that's only for transactions within the PBS system, not orders through the Kiosk. The only place this will show up in on your Receipts listing.
