How long does it take for a request to time out and go on to the next person?

It's about 5 days for a book you've requested and 48hrs for for a WL offer.  I say about because they have the system set up to handle each one differently and it works out to a bit more than that time.  I know if a WL book times out it doesn't offer it to the next person until the next clock hour. So if a WL book times out at say 12:15 pm then it won't go to the next in line until 1pm.  At least this is what I observed recently on a book I posted.

OK. I was wondering because I requested a book and feel like I've been waiting FOREVER for it to be accepted. I have a feeling the person isn't on here anymore so am just biding my time until it times out and goes to the next person.

Thank you for the reply! :)

Whatever you do don't cancel, let it time out.  If you cancel it'll just give the request back to the same person. Unfortunately there are some dead accounts out there. But the timed out transactions help alert PBS to possible dead heads.

And Katy, when the book request does move to the next person, you don't get an e-mail or anything about it--but you will be able to tell because the date and time of the request will change on the information. Hopefully some of these inactive people will be weeded out soon by having their accounts put on hold when they aren't responding to requests.

*sigh* I requested the book on the 18th. The first person turned down the request same day, the second timed out, and I'm now waiting for the third to do something. I think this is the longest I've had to wait to have a request accepted.

The one I'm waiting on waited until the last minute, truly it was just over that 5 day mark to accept.  They did the accepted printed thing right away, but that was 3 days ago that they printed it.  I think they have 5 days + 48 hours grace to mark it mailed.

Waiting is very hard.

This is yet another reason members get such big TBR's they get tired of waiting (for whatever reason) for a book to come that they order others in the mean time.  After a while the wait isn't such a bad thing if you've built upa good TBR pile! ;D
