I sent a book and it was received over a week ago according to the DC. It's not past date yet so there's nothing I can do. But I've passed up 2 WL books hoping this person would mark the book as received. I've had a PM from the person since the book was delivered and I have since sent a PM asking if everything was OK with the book.  I understand some people want to look at the books before giving credit and thats fine. So my question..... How long do YOU usually wait to mark as received?

I mark received the same day the book arrives. Is the other person on vacation, or maybe a new member who doesn't know how to mark a book received?

Also, if you do not have a credit, you should put your wish list books on individual hold so they cannot be offered to you. Remember, you get removed from the wish list if you decline or ignore a WL offer, but you will keep your place in line if you put your WL books on hold. To do this, go to your Wish List, put a checkmark in the box next to the books you want to hold, then click the Hold button at the top of the page. Don't use Vacation Hold, which will put your bookshelf on hold also.

Are you paying for DC from somewhere other than PBS? If you are buying it from the post office you are wasting your money. It's cheaper through PBS and if you had used the PBS dc you'd already have the credit.

I think a week after it's scanned delivered it's probably ok to PM. I normally don't PM but then I keep a credit buffer and put my WL on hold if I get low on credits.  I also don't buy DC so I don't track scans.  But keep in mind that it could have delivered to the wrong house, the requestor could be on vacation and some post office scan at the post office and don't actually deliver the book for days afterwards.  Put in a Holiday weekend in there and they may not actually have the book.

If you are constantly out of credits and don't want to buy any you might want to put your WL on hold until you have some credits built up.  Then the person posting the WL book doesn't have to wait for you to decide, you don't have to go to the end of the line and the person behind you in line gets a copy quicker.

And don't put your books on your bookshelf on hold.  You should only use vacation hold for your bookshelf as the standard bookshelf hold puts your book at the end of the FIFO list.  The wish list hold keeps you in place in the line, the bookshelf hold does not.

Did you use non PBS DC?

Getting a PM from the receiver but the book not marked received?  That would have me concerned.  Was the PM about the book?  Did it mention receiving it?  If yes, then copy the PM and sent it to PBS.  Down in the page corner is Contact Us.

Yeah I had my WL on hold but took it off a few days after shipping the book so I could get back in line. It was wishful thinking on my part thinkng it would be marked the same day. As of right now it's back on hold again. I got the PM 2 days after the DC said it was delivered, I usually PM people and let them know it's been shipped. I know the system lets them know but I guess it's the eBay seller in me PMing them as well.  She's not a new member, she's shipped over 100 book herself. So hopefully she's just on vacation. Who knows, if I loose a credit I loose a credit. I don't have a printer so I can't print postage from home, the DC was from the PO so i wouldn't be able to get my credit back aways. But if it does go by the date I will still send it to PBS so it's marked against her.

I've had a PM from the person since the book was delivered...

Are you saying that they told you that they received the book, but didn't mark it?

If not, I wouldn't assume they have it yet. Right now, I have a book I ordered showing as "delivered" as of a few days ago. I haven't actually gotten it yet though. I was told by a woman in my P.O. that packages are sometimes scanned as "delivered" when they are loaded onto the truck. And the mail can sit in the truck overnight or even over a weekend before it gets delivered.

The PM was just telling her the book had been sent with the DC code. Her reply was

"all set-Thanks"

I got that 2 days AFTER the DC said it was delivered. I understand that sometimes it's not really delivered but it's been over a week now so I kinda figured it really has been. She's not in a rural area, I check already for that.

I wouldn't waste money on DC from teh post office. That's like $8.00 just on DC for every 10 books you send.  You could buy 3 credits for that in the book bazaar.  I've only had 1 go lost out of over 600 sent on PBS.  It's 1 out of close to 1,000 if you add in box of books, game books, and the 2 other trading sites I do.

If i loose the credit I loose it. I'm not going to cry about it and never use PBS again. I like PBS a little too much according to my husband. smiley

I did not have a credit buffer until after my first year here.  Then I began to know what books go fast and which books sat.

Since it has been a week and that PM from them is confusing, but seems to indicate they might have the book, I would PM them again. State that the DC showing it delivered a week ago, if they do not have it you need them to confirm that because you want to start the USPS tracking the book as soon as possible so that the carrier knows what they did with it. If they do have it, please mark it received. That has always resulted in the books being marked received for me.

No one should be sitting there for the book for days, it should be marked received in a timely fashion once they've been able to open it and look it over. If they have had it for a week, that is well beyond a reasonable time to wait to mark it received.

eta: DC from the PO is a waste of money, but when you are running lean on credits, PBS-DC can be well worth it since you can get quick or instant credit. It is also cheaper than the retail even with the fees.

I always mark received within 12 hours. So far anyway. Stuff happens so I can't make any promises.

Even if I'm going to RWAP, I want to do it asap. I might be slower about it then if I'm trying to figure out what to say, but it shouldn't take that long.

Her PM is odd. I would PM her again, ask if she's received it yet because you'll file a lost book form if she hasn't, etc. If she doesn't respond, I'd contact TPTB and see what they can do about it. It just seems odd that she'd say "all set" after it was delivered but then not mark it received. Maybe she forgot to mark it received since she'd already PMed about receiving it? That's all I can think of.

I think the response to the PM didn't have anything to do with the book being delivered. The PM the OP sent was telling the receiver the book had been mailed with DC, and my understanding in reading is that the receiver was responding to that PM.

It's possible the receiver is on vacation and hasnt' had a chance to get her mail and will mark the book received when she gets home from vacation.
